The only example I can think of is "Hot Rats" by Zappa.

2. Depends on your definition of "classic rock."
To me, Minor Threat is classic rock, and those dudes were straight-edge.

From the pre-punk era, though, I might mention "The Inner Mounting Flame" by Mahavishnu Orchestra - maybe the whole band wasn't straight, but John McLaughlin, by that time, certainly was.

Also, The Hampton Grease Band's "Music To Eat," as weird as it is, was written and performed by sober young individuals.

Hmmm....According the conventional wisdom surrounding the guy, Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band had a no-drug policy, but Zoot Horn Rollo himslef disputes this - they apparently would smoke pot and drop acid occasionally (VERY occasionally, as per ZHR).

James Brown fined members of his band if he found they imbibed, thus we can assume that Brown himself was no drugbo.

Of course, since alcohol is a drug, there's lots of good stuff by tipplers and beersops and other types who wouldn't touch MJ or any other drug, and it shows in the music - The Faces, for one (although Ron Wood was a smoker), would not have been as brilliant as they were had they been into other forms of chemical refreshment. Alice Cooper, to name another, was a serious alky who was down on other drugs.

Was Leo Sayer into drugs?

5. Minor Threat came to mind for me as well.

Not "classic rock" by traditional definitions, but they're classic to me. (Keeping in that vein, Refused is another band I'd mention, even though they only existed through the '90s, but then I'm also a Refused fanboy, haha.)

7. You're joking, right?
Although I know somebody who gets to hang out with them on occasion, and he says that sometimes they talk about their excesses of olden times, and then they say they can't take those drugs any more because they conflict with the Lipitor

But they smoked acres of weed making Close to the Edge, and by Tales from Topographic Oceans cocaine was in the mix as well.

A plausible answer to the OP would be Neil Young; apparently he can't take psychotropics because they aggravate his tendency to epilepsy.

9. How would we know?
I'm not sure there's one on which all the creators would even agree to say they hadn't taken drugs.

13. Minor fucking Threat
I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and fuck my head
Hang out with the living dead
Snort white shit up my nose
Pass out at the shows
I don't even think about speed
That's something I just don't need

I've got the straight edge

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
'Cause I know I can cope
Laugh at the thought of eating ludes
Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue
Always gonna keep in touch
Never want to use a crutch

I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
