I just assisted with the birth of two puppies
My sister's purebred Chocolate Lab has been suffering- she was three days overdue, but tonite at just before eleven thirty she finally shot the first one out her heiney (so to speak). The second one followed about seven minutes after. According to the ultrasound there are at least four, perhaps five more to go, but she's taking a bit of a break right now as the first ones feed. They're both pure blacks.

I don't have a camera on hand, so I'm afraid no pics are forthcoming. But it's still a very cool thing to be a part of up close!

#3 is also a pure black- the tally so far is two males and one female.

Half way there.

3. How nice
I can relate to being overdue but not to pups! I am glad she's getting relief!
Anyway, the feeding by the first two might help her with contractions and getting the rest of them born. Congrats to the new mommy!

6. Number four is out
This one came feet first. It just popped out about five minutes ago- we haven't sexed it yet. It's also a pure black.

Two or three to go.

Wonderful image. Here's to the mom and her newborn pups, and the midwives (or should you be called a midhusband?)

8. Midwifery is a noble occupation
My mother was a midwife in her nursing years. So why shouldn't I claim it just once for the puppies? (I've also assisted my cat a couple times in years gone by...)

Shooting puppies out her heiney is also appropriate terminology, IMHO.

10. UPDATE
Looks like the ultrasound diagnosis was premature- she stopped after number four. It's now 4pm and there have been no more births. I wouldn't think that after all this time she'd still be holding anything in.

Mother and all four puppies are doing fine. :bounce:

14. Four is a small litter for a Lab.. We did not have ultrasound
back when ours had a litter.,. They gave me a shot to give her when 3 hours had elapsed with no more pups..
It creeped me out to give her the shot, but she took it like a trooper..

Tasha had 9..not a runt among 'em.. Gorgeous little rascals:)

Lab pups are the BEST :)

15. We also gave her the shot
Didn't have any effect, so it appears she's done.
