Those pansies on the Ultimate Fighter make me want to unretire....
I don't know if any of you watch that show, but here you have guys who supposedly want to fight for a living. Two guys on the show tonight who had previously lost had a chance to come back and fight, because another fighter was injured. Both turned down the chance. One said his head was not into it etc. The other said he was still a little banged up and didn't want to lose again. Ok, this is supposed to be these fighters dream come true. If they win this competition they would get a 6 figure contract. Ok, keep in mind that most fighters are lucky to even make a few bucks here and there fighting in front of shitty little crowds. 100,000 bucks would be a godsend.

Then a few weeks ago, this one guy left the show because his gf heard he was cheating on her. Ok, they can't leave the house at all, no women come over. They train and fight. She heard some internet rumor, sent him a letter and he flipped out. Keep in mind, this guy was already in the semifinals. He has been with this girl only a few months. He gave it all up because of an internet rumor. If I had a gf who did that to me, than I would be thinking she wasn't the "one." People who are in love don't make their SO quit striving for their dream for an internet rumor. This guy just wussed out bad, it was painful watching it.

Tonight some guy quit in the middle of a fight because he said he either broke or cracked a rib. I have seen people crack their ribs. I can guarantee you this guy wasn't hurt that bad. He basically just quit the fight. However, he at least went out and fought, I guess. I can't remember if it was this season or last, but there was a guy who quit because he couldn't make weight, too. A lot of these guys are seriously soft. And, the skill levels aren't all that impressive either, some of these guys absolutely suck.

Sure, there are some tough guys, but only a couple of them have any balls whatsoever, and even fewer have much in the way of skill. I remember I used to cut way more weight in terms of body percentage than these guys. Sure it sucks, but it has to be done. I competed with a blown out right knee I just used tape and a specially made knee brace for. I also had a chronically dislocating shoulder that I had to pop in in the middle of matches before. Now, I don't claim to be the toughest or best athlete around, but I can tell you this, I would have never quit or gotten punked out like some of these people did.

It makes me want to get back in shape and fight a few fights, because if this is the level of top unknown talent out there, than I know I could at least compete. I used to think I'm too small, but now I see some organizations are getting weight classes like 135 set up. My brother already is a cage fighter, and even though I am 31, I know I could do ok.

So we'll see, I'm starting working out again tomorrow. :)

1. can't help you there
I have not watched any boxing since Holmes-Cobb.
But 135, isn't that ten pounds heavier than Hector Camacho?
Wasn't he still fighting at 31?

2. about ten pounds lighter than Hector
Gosh he's still fighting, I think. Here and there.

I have competed in sports seriously in years. My body has healed a little though. The sport is MMA, which is basically a streetfight in a cage with a few rules, they are just now getting some lower weight classes. 135 is actually still big for me, though. If I was in shape I would weigh about 125 or so, and maybe cut down some weight. So something like 110-115 would be perfect, but that doesn't even exist in this sport. :)

3. UFC should see a pretty massive influx of talent now...
Pride's legal troubles in Japan has resulted in their TV contract being yanked, which means many of the best fighters in the world will start heading to the octagon. If they can somehow land Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko CroCop, and Wanderlei Silva the middllewight through heavyweight divisions will be completely turned upside down.

4. Yep, this season is lame...
I haven't watched in a few weeks. I just can't stand the group they've got. "pansies" is putting it nicely.

5. I caught the first episode
but this could be another season. This had two teams each headed by the top fighters who supposedly really really didn't like each other. The guy who seems to own the league and run this show (the Trump if you will) said something about rule changes because one guy was able to make it to the Semis without fighter the season before.

;)

I haven't been watching it this season, but yeah, if they're acting like that then they're a bunch of wimps. Hell, I was 13 when my karate instructor made me continue the match after I dislocated my shoulder. "God gave you two arms! Use the other one!"

12. that's hardcore
I don't even count stuff like dislocated pinkies. Psh.... that isn't even and injury.

The only good part about a dislocated shoulder is it feels orgasmic when it gets popped back in. :)

13. No kidding
Forget about improvised clubs and missiles. I've always thought that the fouls listed in so-called "no holds barred" MMA contests should be taught in self defense classes:

1. Butting with the head.
2. Eye gouging of any kind.
3. Biting.
4. Hair pulling.
5. Fish hooking.
6. Groin attacks of any kind.
7. Putting a finger into any orifice or into any cut or laceration on an opponent. (see Gouging)
8. Small joint manipulation.
9. Striking to the spine or the back of the head. (see Rabbit punch)
10. Striking downward using the point of the elbow. (see Elbow (strike))
11. Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.
12. Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh.
13. Grabbing the clavicle.
14. Kicking the head of a grounded opponent.
15. Kneeing the head of a grounded opponent.
16. Stomping a grounded opponent.
17. Kicking to the kidney with the heel.
18. Spiking an opponent to the canvas on his head or neck.
19. Throwing an opponent out of the ring or fenced area.
20. Holding the shorts or gloves of an opponent.
21. Spitting at an opponent.
22. Engaging in an unsportsmanlike conduct that causes an injury to an opponent.

I've seen the show a bit, and you're right, A LOT of them are pretty soft, I was surprisd too.

I'm 37, and I may not be as fast as I used to be, but give me a few weeks to get back into shape and I think I would do alright too (Well, OK, I might need a knee brace too!).

Size doesn't matter all THAT much, unless you're really small. Hell, Bruce Leee was the baddest motherfucker around and was probably around 135, and I'd put him up against ANYONE, no matter how big when he was in his prime.

11. yeah Mike can handle his business
a few of them can.

For the record, I've competed internationallly as a wrestler and have boxed (undefeated!) in a lot of smokers. I actually have a bit of a background in this stuff. My younger brother is a cage fighter too.
