Proof that God felt mankind was a terrirble mistake......SCRAPPLE
Edited on Wed May-31-06 01:12 PM by LynneSin

Seriously, how people can eat this garbage - and I'm not just saying that, it really is made from garbage; is beyond me. I've actually helped make scrapple some 30+ years ago and basically they take everything left over from the slaughtered pig and compress it. Unforunately it's not the good parts of the pig and sometimes its not even part of the pig but other stuff that got caught in it.

Scrapple is horrible food that must be stopped

2. Yeah pretty much
I don't like either of those except Lebanon Sweet Bologna - but that's a world of difference from regular bologna

7. Nothing wrong with some of the Whiz on your Cheese Steak...
...although I prefer 'American without"

And btw, either you understand what that meant or you have no business being in Philadelphia!

11. I like a provolone wit' from Geno's or Jim's.
You can't eat at Pat's without getting funny looks when you order anything but Whiz (and the depressing thing is, Pat's uses the best beef -- fuckin' ribeye, drenched in Cheez Whiz).

12. I won't go back to Geno's - they serve Freedom Fries
Edited on Wed May-31-06 01:25 PM by LynneSin
Not kidding! I have witnesses.

On the Sunday after a major DU blow-out, I was doing the touristy thing with GOPisEvil, WillPitt and MaineMary insisting they must indulge in a try & true Philadeplhia tradtion of a South Philly cheesesteak from Geno's (at the time my preferred choice although I rarely go more than once a year if I'm lucky). They use to have a giant size picture of the owner standing next to Bill Clinton hanging over the order window

Imagine my horrors when we went to order fries and saw that they were serving "Freedom Fries". I've boycotted Genos since

Use to be one right down the street from where I lived. I use to go there to flirt with the cute cook behind the counter. They tore it down and put up a Hardees though!

10. I'm a vegetarian now, but when I was a very young child in Philadelphia,
my mother would cook scrapple quite often and I loved it. But at that young age, I didn't realize what was it was made of.

20. Scrapple is in the same category as c-loaf, headcheese,
Edited on Wed May-31-06 01:48 PM by NewWaveChick1981
liver pudding, and haggis. :puke: I worked at a grocery store in college, and our sales of scrapple, c-loaf, liver pudding, and other assorted pukies were very brisk. :yoiks: I'd never even heard of them (except liver pudding, which my mother loves, and yes, she grew up on a farm!) until then. Haggis is in a class by itself, though---it's not only pukey, it's Scottish! I love Mike Myers' take on haggis---"Most Scottish food was dreamed up on a dare."

Edited to add: forgot to say that sousemeat was another awful "meat" product that had a big following when I worked at that grocery store.. :yoiks:

21. Never heard of it, but I used to love hogs head cheese as a kid
I've since become vegetarian, but I used to eat hogs head cheese on Saltines. Especially the spicy kind.

Seems like meat eaters should be forced to eat the whole animal, and not just kill the poor beast for a few choice cuts while throwing away the rest of its carcass and moving on to slaughter the next poor creature. I thought that before I became vegetarian, too, so don't blame my labels.

25. Bleech!
I occasionally come across that crap in the grocery store and think to myself, who would eat this abomination?

When it comes to regional pork products for breakfast, I'll stick to pork roll, thank you!

26. When I was in college in Pennsylvania...
My friends and I would always have orders of scrapple sent to strangers tables and put on our tab at diners/restaurants. Just to see people's reactions when random strangers would buy them scrapple. It wasn't that the dish itself was odd to anyone since it was a popular food in the area. Just that why of all things would you send random people horrid meat concoctions. Most of the time it was just fun to watch the waiter deliver the scrapple, have the diner be confused, watch the waiter point to us, and just wave at the person with a smile on our faces. They would politely wave back, clearly perplexed.
