Is HBO worth the money?
My cable company is running a digital cable promotion. I can get 9 channels of HBO for about $9 a month more than I pay now. Is there good stuff on it?

1. yeah, I think it is . . .
The Sopranos . . . Sex in the City . . . Band of Brothers . . . Angels in America . . . Oz . . . the list goes on, but you get the idea . . . then again, you can always wait for these series to run their course and buy the DVD sets instead . . . :)

2. "Maybe" 9 bucks worth
I used to see a lot of HBO in hotels when I was an airline pilot. I found during the day it was mostly crap. Bad movies that never made it in theaters. There was usually better stuff at night. It's available as a premium on our cable, but I don't think it's worth it.

3. No
They show the same shows and movies for 8 months, you have to wait an entire month to see something new and then they play that movie or show for 8 months. Unless you like watching stuff over and over again it is not worth it.

5. It beats the crap out of network drivel aired nightly
Judge Judy and the half-dozen judge shows, Cops,Bachelor, return of Bachelor, Son Of Bachelor, Bachelor spanks Monkey... Real Life (uh huh) Punk'd.. "Who wants to whore themselves before America and "Marry a Millionaire?"..you get my drift.

6. It's worth it to me--if just so I can catch something on HBO West.
It's easier than taping something, LOL, just catch it on the other HBO.

But, for 9 bucks, I think it's worth it if you are a movie fan.
During the day it IS pretty crappy. And, we HAVE had about a million months between seasons of Sex and the City and the Sopranos. But their original shows and special presentations (Wit, Angels in America) are much better (IMO) than what's on tv elsewhere. I don't have the patience to wait for the DVD.

And they show a good movie here and there--supposedly it's a new one every Saturday, but sometimes that movie sucks, or it's boxing.

I did catch Secretary on HBO Signature the other night! :P
Jammmeessss :loveya:

7. "Angels in America..."
"61", "Autopsy", "6-Feet Under", I can never remember the title: The HBO show on Matthew Shepard's murder in Wyoming. Heavyweight Fights, "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel", "Inside the NFL"
These shows alone are worth it

Then there are the constant re-runs of Harry Potter..on and on, but I can live with it just like I live with the drivel on network TV...I just don't watch the ones I don't care to see again.

10. The Laramie Project
That was the Matthew Shepard movie and I cry everytime I watch that. Between that and "And the Band Played On" are 2 movies that make me cry profusely everytime they're on. Plus with "Angels in America", I have more of a reason to dispise everything about Ronald Reagan.

BTW, I love "Live from Baghdad". It gives a great insight to the explosion of Network News Channels with how CNN covered the first Gulf War. Plus I start weeping everytime the war starts (which is fucking amazing to see). Another new favorite HBO Movie is "Normal". Tom Wilkenson plays a man who decides that he really is a woman and wants to change sexes. Thing is he and his wife, Jessica Lange, live in a small town in middle America. The kind of town that doesn't take to kindly on things like Transgender/Transexuals.

9. It's worth every penny
Especially if you're getting more than 1 channel of HBO.

They have the best "Made for TV" movies including the recent broadcast of "Angels in America". They also have the best TV Series including "The Sopranos" "Carnivale" "Six Feet Under" "Curb Your Enthusian"(That's starring the creater of Seinfeld - Larry David and it's many impromptu acting, but funny as shit. 200% better than Seinfeld ever was) and my personal favorite "Sex and the City". I've never seen "The Wire" but folks who have said it's one of the best crime dramas out there.

I probably watch HBO more than any other channel on my TV and you get plenty of current stuff with the multi-channel HBO (and I've heard they have great kids cartoons on HBO Family).

For only $9 more per month - get the channels. If you have digitial cable, you may have HBO on Demand include for free which can help you get caught up in some of the current TV Series!!

12. I think they are worth it for the original programming....
Carnivale, and the others mentioned above, plus Bill Mahar will be kicking off another season in Jan or Feb. K Street, and the movies are just a minor bonus really. I was awakened in the middle of last night and couldn't get back to sleep. True Lies was on...I know I know, not mind expanding fare by any strecth, but could fun at 4 am when there is nothing else on.

14. We have basic, basic cable....none of the news stations....
no Comedy, Sci-FI USA, TBS, TNT etc....but I do have the networks, and CBC(Vancouver) and we have BBC America, TV Land and few others in that area of the dial and the all HBO's and we only pay $27.00 for the lot. We're very happy with that amount.

16. If I were to get it.....
it would probably be the most "basic" stripped down version available. I do like the Discovery channel and the History channel... Beyond that, it's a crap shoot for me.

15. Yeah I think so
HBO was no great shakes until they started doing original programming. Their original movies were and are very good but the original series are way better than broadcast network. Speaking of HBO movies, I was watching Live from Baghdad last night. Riveting.

I like the multiple HBOs--if you miss something, typically you can pick it up on one of the other HBOs later.

18. Oh Yes!
Get yourself a gift for yourself this holiday season. I don not think you will regret it.

Angels in America alone is worth one year of premiums.

However, their own movies far surpass those they show from other sources IMO.
