X-Men is a flop. Da Vinci Code sucks. Mission Impossible 3 is a dud. Everything else is a stupid remake.

I don't really want to see any of those animated features.

So what else is a body to do?

I guess I'll be renting Deadwood from Netflix.

4. Where do you live? What are your tastes?

I'm always glad to discuss movies, but I need to know your expectations and where you're living -- the better to know which local paper's summer movie previews to recommend. What's released at a film festival or in a major city might not turn up in a particular town until later, if at all.

I read The Washington Post, which always does seasonal updates (fall/winter, plus summer) movie previews. Here's an online chat they ran on the summer 2006 schedule. I'm not a fan of Jen Chaney (and don't even get me started on Stephen Hunter), but it might give you some ideas.

One solution is simply to click on the following link each weekend to see what's opening. You can look up screenings by area, too.

Going to the movies is part of a summer ritual, as far as I'm concerned, whether it's watching movies in a theater, a museum, or outdoors (yes, we still do that in some areas). Just silence the cell phones and other devices, gang!

On edit: Just looked at your profile and saw that you're in northern New Jersey. I guess movie selection depends on how far you want to drive and whether you want to cross state lines.

5. The nearest art-house theater is an hour away.
I subscribe to the email alerts from Roger Ebert, Washington Post Movies and New York Times Movies. I read iMDB almost daily.

Thanks a lot for those links, it seems you put a lot of care into that post.

It got so bad, that I went to see "Goal! The Dream Begins" because I wanted to see something in the theater. It was actually pretty good, except for the cheese factor. I'm a big soccer fan. I'm actually going to see Bayern Munich play the Red Bulls at Giants Stadium tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks a lot.

Kire

6. "It got so bad." LOL!
Yes, there are movies I've seen for reasons other than critical acclaim. My then-housemate and I went to see A Fish Called Wanda mainly because we had no air conditioning, and Buffalo had what qualified as a heat wave.

Fortunately, the movie was great.

7. Read a book?
I haven't been inside of a movie theater in well over a year.
