Cheer me up, please.
How was your day? Give me a positive story, or a pleasant "well, today I..." post, if you're willing.

I could use a lift around here.

Thanks in advance!

If it helps you meet your goal, then yes, it is. I understand that the intake of WINE is a big part of it. Thumbs up!

That IS good news, though. I hate how they're treating folks over such a silly thing. I mean, if you're going to make meth or whatever, you'll be buying it in BULK, right?

23. Agreed.
But the ephedra ban had little to do with meth. It was about Big Pharma and their weight loss dope. Wouldn't want folks doing that without help from an herb used for generations that Big Pharma couldn't capitalize on, eh?

Phen-Fen, anyone?

that you won't tell my mom. She taught English (mensa, all that crap) for decades. However, this: "The purpose of this course is to learn complex grammatical structures which can be used in academic writing classes, and to insure that students are capable of producing these structures independently."

I don't think so.

to see the critters I'm lucky enough to care for. One of my ferals has a broken leg - she is too wild to get near. :( Fortunately she knows where to go for food (Maryland Pushover House!). Niece & NIL saw one of our foxes today. Rocky Raccoons are out there fighting over their dinner. I love living out here.

The critters would cheer you, I think.

I gotta go to bed but best wishes - yet more - heaped on you. Wish I could pick you up more.

If I talk her into it I'll put up the link. She's mailing them to me from IL in about two weeks. I paid only for the materials-no labor.

29. Good news for one of my students
I work with "at risk" kids, doing one-on-one and small group literacy tutoring. I have several that are not exactly success stories, but there was a hopeful sign for one today.

This little boy, all of 7 years old, has been really struggling and his teacher and I have been worrying about his chances in the larger classroom setting. This boy is a hard one to reach, and despite 8 months of daily one-on-one work, his scores have been low. The new tests were today. At the beginning of the year, he tested at K level, and today he tested at grade 2 + one month.

Yes, it's only one test, but it's really heartening that he was able to focus his energies long enough to take the test in the classroom and to do so well!

Cross your fingers!

48. Yes, it is. My son and his pet chicken. She's SEVEN years old, which
is goddamn ANCIENT for a chicken, no doubt because she's livin' the life, as chicken lives go.

She hasn't even given us an egg for over a year, but no matter...this isn't a farm, it's a family household. And Chiquita is part of the family.

Furthermore, thanks for the good words. I was so damn proud of myself today when I drove to the bank and walked into and out of it, with no crutches. I told Mrs R that I'd beat this like I've always beaten it. I may be old and damaged, but I'm still the toughest son of a bitch in the valley.

Glad to hear I helped cheer you up.

56. Fixed a big falling out with a DU friend.
As regards to all that, it could be summed up with
Me: "I thought you weren't kidding!"
You:"I thought you were kidding!"

Btw, the tone of my first posts on the subject was not angry,
just confused because I just didn't get what you were doing,
because I thought you weren't kidding, because I never did
find the post you were responding to. (Until pointed out to me
by another DU'er).

In sum total, I am (1)Sorry about that - I am already planning
the next one so no worries about the first one. (2) wanting
you to return to the SSP group. (3) Calm and not at all angry
for the past few days. Even in the incident I was neve angry
- ok I did cry once but never angry.

Look, your friends are waiting, come back! It would break my
heart again to have you dissapear!

(and now that we can get back to kidding)

Bmus come hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooome!

;)

*smiles now*

Cheers,
R_A.

60. How about some sage advice from Danny?

Danny:

• (the Camberwell carrot) I invented it in Camberwell, and it looks like a carrot.

• I don't advise a haircut, man. All hairdressers are in the employment of the government. Hairs are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos, and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight.

• The greatest decade in the history of mankind is coming to an end and as Presuming Ed here has so consistently pointed out, we have failed to paint it black.

• London is a country coming down from its trip. We are 91 days from the end of this decade and there's going to be a lot of refugees

• Change down, man. Find your neutral space. You gotta rush. It'll pass. Be seated.

• They're selling hippie wigs in Woolworth's, man.

• This'll tend to make you very high.

• This doll is extremely dangerous. It has voodoo qualities

Danny: Why trust one drug and not the other? That's politics, isn't it?
Withnail: What are you talking about Danny?
Danny: Politics man. If you're hanging on to a rising balloon, you're presented with a difficult decision; let go before it's too late, or hold on and keep getting higher. Posing the question, how long can you keep a grip on the rope?
