The only thing around me open at midnight are convenience stores and scouting them I can't find anything remotely "hard." Well except for the 5'6" gangsta running the register :eyes:

6. Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum

stay away from combinations of alcohol and sugar, like the alcopops. You will not feel happy about it the next morning if you start your drinking career with alcopops.

Whatever you drink, though, make sure to line up a ride home with someone who's unaltered.

7. Guinness

aka Ambrosia. This is not a beer for beginners as it is unlike anything else you will ever experience. You may wish to start with something like Harps, or (and I suggest this even though it is a perversion of all that is holy, a Black-and-Tan.) Mike's Hard Lemonade is good in all it's variations.

8. Definitely tequila

Or a nice single malt, Glenlivet or Glenfiddich. Although at 21, you probably won't like scotch much.

You'll be a grownup, so it's time to give up the kiddie liquors (Mike's, Zima, et al.). :)

9. Mix away

Try this,
Smirnoff Ice (not black) Pour the entire 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, in a shot glass mix 1/2 shot of Quervo 1800 or any choice of tequila, and 1/2 shot of Chambord or any raspberry liquor(razzmatazz)

Drop the shot glass in the Pint glass, Chug until finished. It is a great tasting Boilermaker

This will work with Mikes Hard also.

Seriously, Guinness is great. And....it has much less alcohol content than you might expect from something so dark.

I'm a well seasoned drinker and have learned to stay away from anything that has a lot of sugar in it, like MHL, or Rum & Coke, or Pina Coloda's, etc.

Stick to the basics. You'll be rewarded.

11. No Hard Lemonades

stick with any kind of beer, but don't go down the road of those flavory beverages, they taste like shit and will destroy with a headache. Guinness is great, Harp is great - if you can find a beer there called La Fin Du Monde - it is the best. So, remember, no Mike's Hard Lemonade or any Zima-like malt beverage - alright? Welcome to the world of 21, you have many lessons before you to learn about alcohol - remember take it slow.

13. During the summer I was 19

The powers that be lowered the drinking age here in Ontario to 18. Chagrined at having missed all this drinking time, I went out and bought a 26 ounce bottle of Smirnoff's to celebrate.

It was the only time I've spent the night sleeping on the bathroom floor.
