CPI question

I've tried to research this and keep getting conflicting results ...

Can anyone tell me what the annual CPI was for the year ending 9/30/2003? In other words, if a loaf of bread cost $1.00 on 10/1/2002, what did it cost 9/30/2003?

Would appreciate and links to how you found or calculated it.

Presumably, you can just take the ratio of the CPIs for the two periods. The CPI is blended - not just bread - however.

The yearly CPIs numbers are by calendar year, so you'll have to roll your own for a non-standard year end (monthly CPIs are supplied).

2. Inflation calculator

Generally, you have a base year (1.00) and then years before that are less than one and years after are greater than one (given that there is not deflation). To compare two years you take the difference. I don't think you'll get 2003 final CPI yet. I don't remember what the latest base year is. Try this page where you just plug in years and an amount:
