Well. I guess this is it.
I have 1.5 weeks left on my job, and I'm history. I've worked there 4 years. I started out in assembly and talked them into giving me the graphic designer's job. So, I was given a desk and a phone.

I was also allowed to self-teach, so I plodded ahead with Acrobat, Quark and Photoshop. I think I learned a lot. They are selling the entire company to Florida. I have no complaints really because they're cutting me loose with a year's severance pay. I just learned this today so I'm a little in shock, and a little relieved.

Maybe I'll catch up on General Hospital. I always wanted to know what happened with "Nicholas". :)

Love,
Stefania

1. A year of severance? Not too bad.
But still, sorry you're losing your gig. I hope you can find something when you're ready.

9. Wow!! A year of severence pay is great!!!
my hubby was laid off a few years back, after 10 yrs in middle management at a high tech company in the Silicon Valley. He "only" got an 8 mos. severence package and we thought that was pretty damn good. It was a really nice time for us, ultimately. He got back into a regular exercise routine, we spent more time together. The severence really helped to take the pressure off.

Good on ya, for getting a whole year! That's awesome.

Who knows what other doors will open up to you because of this new change? Be open....

11. Severence pay? Damn you're lucky.
In my line of work severence pay is a ball cap with a company logo and a swift kick in the ass as you're heading out the door. I need to get into the white collar world.

14. Sorry to hear about the job
A years severance is very accommodating. 2 years ago my company did a market exit and we got nothing but the vacation time they paid out. I think mine was three weeks worth. Luckily I was hired but the company who took over the market. Relax for a while then start the networking process. You might want to start with the clients you have worked with over the past couple of years or vendors.

19. Good luck in your new future
Sounds like your current company respected your value as an employee by recognizing your self-motivation and initiative. Those qualities are a valuable asset for you.

And a year's severance after only four years is quite unusual. Did everyone get a similar package?

Enjoy your vacation and best of luck in your job search.

:)

34. A year's severance pay is excellent.
I doubt that many who are laid off are given that. I was let go from a magazine in South Florida with 6 months' severance. But that was a good thing because I had been seriously considering moving up to to North Georgia. At least I had enough to live on until I found permanent employment after I moved up here to the Atlanta area. Plus, I was covered by medical insurance for 6 months also.

37. i'm grateful that we discussed this prospect in the pm world some...
time back, when it was just an initial rumbling. but i am here for you to essentially re-confirm what i've thought all along...and that is this: you are among the truly gifted, talented, and level headed women in my orbit; and i simply have universal & ultimate faith in you...

so if you think i should run down to the cathedral and light a candle for Mine Late Great Czarina...then i will. but i don't think i'll have to. i mean i will, you know, out of GP. but not because the universe is somehow not on your side cause you are going to land on your feet and you & i both know it. plus a years severance ain't bad and will go toward making that landing a padded one, yes?

hm, more time on your hands huh http://www.deltaking.com

41. You worked your way up from an assembly job? We have something in
common, then. I did the same thing is the electronics business. Ended up in sales & marketing, which led to being able to open my business.

It's good to hear that it's still possible to climb the ladder like that. Of course with YOUR talent, it was kind of inevitable, wasn't it?

You'll do well, m'dear. Trust me on this.
