Can you say "Fuck" on TV now...
As long as you have a disclaimer? I'm not talking about HBO or any of the premium channels. I mean standard cable--Bravo, E!, Comedy Central, FX, whatever.

The other night, the Comedy Central Roast of Pamela Anderson was on. They said "fuck" several times, and several other words you don't normally hear (my delicate ears were shocked beyond belief, LOL).

Is that all that's needed now, a disclaimer? Now, ABC had disclaimers for Saving Private Ryan (and Schindler's List IIRC), but those were originally theatrical releases. The roast was filmed for TV, not the movies--and nothing was bleeped out.

Are there other recent instances of this, where a show is known to be raunchy, but rather than bleep the words, they just have a disclaimer after every commercial break?

1. I dunno...
but on Comedy Central, after 1am on the weekend they don't edit language at all.

2. I did not know that...
(Ed McMahon voice!)

Have they been doing that for awhile? Uncut movies and the like?

4. I first noticed it when they played
the South Park movie. Probably 6 months?

6. I'd even say closer to a year...
And, yeah, they even do the South Park movie unedited. If you can run that on TV, you can run anything.

7. They did Eddie Murphy 'Raw' awhile back.
At least I think it was Raw. I always get them mixed up.

10. Could've been either. I think they've done Raw and Delirious...
You can tell them about because Eddie's wearing the purple sequined suit in Raw, the red leather one in Delirious

3. Last year, Mark Grace dropped a few f-bombs on live tv
during a Dbacks game (he's an announcer for the team) but he had to apololgize profusely to avoid being fined. We had a real good laugh about it on the baseball message boards. Gotta love Gracie!

5. You can in Canada
Even on network TV. The Sopranos and The Osbournes were both shown on network TV here without any bleeps.

I've seen Canadian television and could not get over how...modern Canadian television is. You're actually in the 21st century...you're not afraid to use a simple word like "fuck" on television.

We're currently stuck in the 1950's as far as that's concerned.

29. "The Newsroom" was the first network show in Canada to say "fuck"...
...as a scripted piece of dialogue.

Back on October 21, 1996.

How's that for trivia?!

8. I think during regular hours you can't
say Fuck or Shit but you can say like Bitch without being bleeped. During late late hours I don't think some things are bleeped. Remember it is all to preserve the children's innocence!

9. you saw the "Secret Stash" version
Comedy Central has been airing uncensored movies and specials at 1:00 am. I recently saw "A Few Good Men" on Bravo and it was uncensored and in wide screen. so maybe there is a change shifting in American cable.

and how about that Pamela Anderson roast. It looked like the Betty Ford clinic all stars show.

12. It depends on the Channel.
The FCC does not regulate content on cable like it does on broadcast stations (yet). Content on cable is all self-regulatroy. Each cable channel has its own standards.

14. Comedy Central will say the f-bomb after midnight.
They include it in their show called Secret Stash. Secret Stash will show movies uncut and comedy clips w/ all the naughty bits in them.

23. Yep.
A couple of weeks ago I watched a Ron White special on Secret Stash. Very obvious it was unedited. The best part was listening to him tell his cousin that everyone is gay.

and on our state equivalent of c-span.

I don't recall any disclaimers.

Broadcast is covered by FCC, cable is not.

21. Heck, BBC America shows actual boobs.
It's on most people's digital cable platform, but they have the warnings for those kind of programmes too ("Mile High" does it in a tongue-in-cheek way). E! when it was showing the Howard Stern show decided to pixellate the in-studio stripper, but they could have decided to have shown the full monty instead.

BTW the boobs you would have seen on BBC America (plus the foul language) would have been aired on UK screens - just as long as it's after 9pm.

18. I don't know. I did hear the f-word on a broadcast channel -
Channel 9 in Minneapolis - years ago during a showing of The Deer Hunter. I think that was a censoring error, though, because I only heard it once.

19. Just another sign of progress. Back in 1939 it was a scandal
when Rhett Butler said "damn" on the silver screen in "Gone With the Wind". Now people can drop the "F" bomb whenever they want to.

20. god i hope so.
i have noticed a relaxing in all sorts of areas concerning language.

but so far ''fuck'' has been sort of bleeped -- like **ck or fu**.

but when it comes to adult entertainment -- and there isn't explicit sex or excessive violence -- language should just be.

on Nip/Tuck. Hey that even rhymes. ;)

I even have a nickname for that show. I often call it "Tuck and Fuck!" Because hey that's what they do in most of the episodes.

But I still love it for my regular Julian fix.
