Prom Goers To Be Forced To Take Blood-Alcohol Tests
:eyes:

<snip>

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Hilton Head High School students will need more than fancy dresses and tuxedos to get into this year's prom: They'll also have to pass a blood-alcohol test.
School officials decided to test all students this year to determine if they have been drinking after several students arrived at last year's prom drunk, said Obie Schramm of the Beaufort County School District.

"Unfortunately, there's always a handful of students drinking, and that makes it hard for everyone. We don't want something terrible to happen," Schramm said.

School officials will administer the tests, principal Helen Ryan said.

Student Alex Clare, who is helping organize the prom, said he supports testing for alcohol.

"If I'm not drinking, then it doesn't bother me. I think some people are mad at it, but I can see why they did it," Clare said.

Beaufort County school officials said they will look at Hilton Head High's plan before deciding whether to do blood-alcohol tests at the district's other three high school proms.

1. Instead of assuming beforehand that everyone is a criminal,
and making them prove that they aren't, why not just take the disruptive ones out, whether they are disruptive due to alcohol or their own inherent jock-based assholery? Or whatever?

Fucking Christ.

6. that's the way it SHOULD be
kids these days...don't they know better? Go to Prom to get your corny picture then go to the after parties and get trashed. I thought everyone knew that.

5. what, no strip searches?
Better yet, why not just preemptively arrest them? If we're going to treat them like criminals then let's do it all the way. :eyes:

7. I think they should cancel the prom and call for a curfew that night
starting at 4 pm, to make sure that nothing illegal or untoward happens, since it's patently obvious that EVERY teenager is planning on being drunk, smashing something, getting pregnant, and killing someone with their car. PATENTLY obvious.

I'd also make the ENTIRE senior redo their final year, to teach a lesson to the youngsters that this kind of bullshit is not going to be tolerated. And their parents will need to individually drop the students off in the morning and sign a form, and then personally pick them up after school and sign a form.

Drinking at a prom, even one that hasn't happened yet and which has, in fact, been cancelled, is truly the worst sort of behavior, ever, and needs to punished.

8. This is the reason why teen drinking is such a problem here
Make something incredibly taboo then watch kids try to get their hands on it.

9. Does that involve a needle?

I'm sure they'd have loved to have seen me hyperventilate as they try and stick me...

In other news, after my prom last year, we went home and played video games :)
