I donated in someone's name and she doesn't seem to know it.
At the fund drive, I was looking around for a worthy candidate for a gold star, and I came upon someone with over a 1000 posts who I was surprised to find out was the perfect candidate. My interactions with her have been minimal, but she is very, very active in GD. Can anyone guess who my secret sponsored person is?

Here are the clues:

A female.

More than 1,000 posts.

Very, very active in GD.

3. She's definitely liberal.
But that's not part of her name. She's actually mor liberal than liberal. She's rather left of liberal, I think.

But, the best gift is an anonymous one. You already gave it away

6. Its kinda sad that you need to feel good only if gratified by a thank you
I feel the best way to contribute to charity is to just do it. If you did it anounomously. Why not just feel good in your own heart and know that it was appriciated. But thats just me. Sweet dreams.

12. It's the word "sad" that is inelegant.
It's presumptuous. You don't know my motives for giving in this person's name or posting here. It might be sad that you drew the conclusions you drew, in fact.

9. Charity only counts when it is anonymous
An old Sunday School tenet. Real giving does not ask anything in return.

That said, I think I'm going downstairs and beat the dog.

Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 02:03 AM by BurtWorm
I'm tempted to wonder if you and mindless are both Christians, judging my motives without understanding them against scriptural doctrine. Well, whatever your motives, you're welcome to them, but I find it remarkable what a souring effect your posts have had on this thread. Thanks for sharing.

PS: The only thing I want in return is the peace of mind of knowing that she can use the benefits a gold star entitles her to. I think even a Christian could understand that motive.

I am a Christian. And my snippy, judgemental comment was wrong.

Now, if I could just find that damn dog.

19. It has nothing to do with being christian. More like being good people.
If you donated in her name then you know she has those benefits. The money has been donated and she will see it on her posting site. But you do what you feel you need to do. I guess our opinions of charity differ. I will thank you now for any you might send me in the future. I wont ask the same from you as I feel charity is what it is. "Not for my personal gratification". I do not in any way mean to dis you but think our ideas of charity differ. Night all.

20. I've PM'd her to let her know.
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 02:40 AM by BurtWorm
I'm not hoping for or expecting a thank you, because I didn't do it just for her. I did it for DU. The fact that I could do it for her was just a bonus. But what good would that bonus be if she wasn't aware that she is now entitled to a few extras that maybe she wants to use?

Charity takes all sorts of forms, one of which is giving other people the benefit of the doubt. You could be a little more charitable, in my opinion. Sweet dreams.

28. the extras with a star...?
Someone also very kindly donated a star for me. I didn't know there were "extras"... can anyone clue me in?

I was very appreciative... not because of the star, but just that someone would actually do that.

Nice warm fuzzy.

29. The "extras" are that you can use the search feature
which is VERY handy. I use it every day. You also need the "star" to do a poll, but I rarely use that, but some people use it a lot.

31. BW - I cannot believe some of the posts about your reasons for giving.
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 12:20 PM by caledesi
Yes, giving can be reciprocal (both parties feel good), but that doesn't mean one is "looking" for something. These people criticizing have to "get a grip."

A while back around Xmas, I had some money and my best friend and I were going into the supermarket when we can upon a homeless person and I gave him $10. My friend says "How could you do that? You know he's going to buy booze with it." I responded "It's no longer my money, he can do with as he pleases." Sounds like a Zen thing.

Peace out.

edit: usual stuff

27. I think this thread was about telling someone to look for a star
I think some people in this thread were a bit presumptuous about Burt's intentions. I think there is someone out there that does not yet know they have a star after their name and Burt is trying to tell them to LOOK!

That was nice of you Burt. I'm glad you gave a good GD warrior more tools to go to battle with, whoever she is!!

Kudos! :toast:

Now, I'm dying to know who it is now!!!
