Does anyone remember this wierd 80's sci-fi flick?

My friend and I were talking about the wierd and ultra-violent movies we used to watch on cable as little kids in the early and mid-eighties (Beastmaster etc...)

In any event there was a movie that came up that we couldn't remember the name of. I 'd say it came out in the mid 1980's and it involved a group of 'super heroes' battling some evil genius. It was set in the apocalyptic future. The most vivid thing we can remember is that one of the good guys was a sort of half-man half-tank. There was also a pretty blonde and, I think an asian karate expert type. there may have been a black guy too, I can't remember.
The main bad guy was trying to invent a time machine to go back to the 1980s and take over the world, in the end he gets foiled and is sent back to pre-history.

some of you probably think I'm making this up, but I am not. It is killing me because I loved this movie when I was 8. It had a title like 'The (something)'.

It was 'The ...', you're right.

I think one of them (the martial arts guy) was a 'ninja', or something similar.

I thought I was an expert on all bad cable films,
but that one is not ringing a bell...

I remember when Beastmaster was on some cable channel at every time of the day nonstop... USA, TBS etc.

a friend of mine said he never saw it, and I was amazed that he was able to avoid it.

We got cable in 1983 when i was 5. It was on HBO non-stop! I was traumatized by the scene when they thew the little kid into the pyre!

Denise Crosby was the blonde, BTW:

A boring sci-fi tale about a band of futuristic warriors who battle a mad scientist. They include a robot who resembles a small tank with the head and upper torso of a man sprounting out of where the turret should be, a girl, and a stereotypical Asian martial artist.

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune had nearly obliterated the memories from my mind. That was one FECK of a flick!
