It is time for another "I cut my own hair" thread.
I have used the same Wahl clippers (purchased for $30 in 1995) for about ten years, and have replaced the blades once, for ten bucks. Add a couple of bucks for lubricating oil.

I use the one inch attachment all over my head, and the 1/4 inch attachment on my sideburns and eyebrows.

I estimate that I have saved thousands of dollars. I'm not a penny pincher, but this is neat and I am in control.

:)

1. Well,as long as you don't start pulling your own teeth.
That would be crazy.

7. Wait a minute.
I think my parents pulled a tooth as a child by wrapping a string around it and yanking.

I could be mistaken, though. :)

3. I could not do that and look presentable.
I am happy to pay somebody ELSE to do it. Plus, I'm lucky enough to have one of best friends as my hairdresser, so it's a great time to socialize as well. Kind of a two birds with one stone type of thang.

But good on ya, friend, if you've made it work so well for you, cutting it yourself. That's cool.

4. My dear Floog!
Good for you! But I would NEVER cut my own hair......:scared:

I hardly am able to cut my own toenails...much less anything complex like my hair!

I have an excellent hairdresser, who on Saturday, did me proud.....See?

Here I am, at the booksigning with my good friend John Morgan Wilson, and his latest book!

5. Funny thing, CPeg.
When I cut my hair one inch all over, it doesn't look very different from your husband's hair. ;)

BTW, your hair looks great.

9. Thanks for the kind words!
Um, sweetie......the gentleman in the picture is NOT my husband!

He is a good friend of about 30 years standing, and the author of the book you see on the table in front of us!

28. which is one thing that allows you to do your own cutting
I cannot wear my hair like that even if I wanted to. Too many people would die laughing. If you have seen the cartoon with Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and baby new year you will understand.

10. I Do The Same Thing, Saves $20 a Pop
I use a ConAir with different attachments, a pair of sharp scissors and a mirror for the back. It takes less time than it does to drive to a shop and sit around for a while and I do it better than they do.

12. When I was pregnant with my first child, I decided to cut about
six inches off my hair. In a moving vehicle. With the mini-scissor attachment on a pocketknife.
:scared:
Hormones are scary.

21. I decided to cut my own hair when I was pregnant too.
Not in a moving vehicle, but under the influence of soap operas and boredom. I decided to give myself bangs--like the new look of one of the characters. It sort of looked like Barbie's hair after a four year old decided to "improve" it.

Oh yeah! It was baaaaad.

14. I've been cuttin' my own hair for years
One day when I was about 22, I was really pissed off at it and I didn't have an appointment, so I just said "Screw it" and started cutting. I'd watched my stylist as she did it, so I had a vague idea of how. There was a lotta fixin' to do, but nothing drastic, and I've gotten better at it over the years. (Rule No. 1: Don't cut more than about half an inch at a time. That way, if you screw up, it's not disastrous.)

I laid off for awhile a few years ago when I found a real good stylist in town. But when she went up to $35 and my income got severely cut, I decided it was a luxury I could forego.

15. yea, several times in the last 6 months of last year...
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 12:14 AM by Race4Peace
the first time, i cut hair that was 8 inches down to 5, later to 3.5 to keep it out of my eyes, and several more times when i got mad at it(it looked like a turd after those events). finally, one of my classmates shaved it to an inch. on school grounds. during school. better than any of the salons in the city. no more cuts since then.

I'm gonna start cutting my bangs again myself, but I need a pro cut for the rest or it looks like crap.
