I went to the grocery with my 85 year old Grandfather
We were looking for a handicapped parking space when the last one was taken by this car with a permit. The car parked and out pops two twenty something year old girls and they pratically skipped across the parking lot to the front door. They need to really start limiting on who they give those permits to. I know not every disability is visible, but sheesh! That display I saw with my Grandfather was just too much.

My Grandpa can park in regular parking, but he needs a cart to use as a walker. I got him the cart....

1. That drives me nuts
I think a lot of times people use the car of someone who has a placard or plate and take advantage of the fact they have it. That's not right.

Bless you for helping out your Grandpa.

6. Thank You!!
My Grandpa likes to bring me because I can work the self checkout and he doesn't have to wait in line.

2. I'm sorry...
They've gotten really strict around here - when I had knee surgery, I couldn't get a temporary placard, even though I needed one, and we had to have my great-grandfather's renewed every 3 months with a letter from his doctors.

3. But those girls may have had a disability like MS!
:eyes:

They're definitely sick if they're going to cheat a Handicapped parking zone...

17. MS
I do have MS and a handicapped tag. When I am feeling well, I park in a regular place so the ones who need the place more, can have it.

4. probably the girls driving grandma's car
it's pathetic that they would take that space when other people who really need it are out in the cold.

7. That happened to a friend of mine.
He blocked the car in & called the police. They waited until the able- bodied twits came out. They were given a ticket.

9. Good!
But these girls had the permit, so there was no penalty.

13. They can still get a ticket

...if the permit is assigned to someone other than the driver or a passenger.

I HATE it when people do that! Next time please don't hesitate to call, or have the store manager call for you.

8. That crap reallly pisses me off.
My job is dealing with people injured on the job. Most of them aren't injured enough to need a handicapped parking placard, but some were. Plus, I had a co-worker who was in a wheelchair. I used to see so many totally able-bodied people park in the handicapped spots. The cops said they could not do anything; the property manager had to. So, I talked to the PM, and he gave me a stack of these big, bright orange stickers. Whenever I was someone park in the handicapped spots who did not belong there, I'd go out and slap on of those stickers (12" x 6") on the driver's side window, then watch them come out, and spend forever trying to get the sticker off! Bwahahahahahahaha! Served 'em right!

10. What did the stickers say?
Or were they just orange rectangles?

11. Just rectangles.
But they made their point. Some of these folks were repeat offenders, and once they got stickered, they never did it again!

12. Ah, I get it
Sorta like a scarlet letter.

Thing is, though, it seems like these days they're giving out placards for everything. Somebody might have one, legally, for an ingrown toenail. It's gotten so I'm afraid to call anybody on stealing a handicap space because they're liable to get in my face with "I HAVE A RASH ON MY SHINS, ASSHOLE!"

14. I have a legitimate one....finally.
I gave up my membership at BJ's Wholesale Club since it is too difficult to walk, and the one big thing I liked to get there was a case of water. After my injury, I was unable to lift the case of water anyway.

I didn't shop at any large stores as I was unable to walk that far, and I was too embarassed to use the motorized cart. After almost two years of not shopping at Home Depot/Lowes/Target, I now use the carts.

I can't "do" the malls, since all they have are wheelchairs, and I live alone.

A movie theatre is a nightmare with their sloped floor. That hurts worse than steps.

Oh, and Harris Teeter's new stores have EXPECTANT MOTHER spots closest to the front doors, yet I have never seen anyone park there. They put the handicapped spots further away, but convenient to a ramp. Guess they don't know that not everyone is in a wheelchair, but have other issues which make them disabled.

Yes, I get the hairy eyeball from some people when I park in the handicapped spot. If anyone was to say anything to me, I would probably take their head off. This damned injury has totally turned my life upside down, and no, I don't receive a penny in compensation from worker's comp.
Sorry for my rant, but I am hurting at the moment and that makes me cranky.

16. just last weekend I was at the grocery
and saw a snazzy Miata (with no tag), and a big honking SUV (also with no tag) hogging up the handicapped spaces. Thing is - it was during a ball game (college town) - and thus there were not many cars in the lot to begin with... Had the cars at least had a placard (and one could assume an unseen disability) it might have been one thing. But here was a lot with plenty of spaces... Grrr.
