Guilty pleasures
I'm almost ashamed to admit it but:

soaps
commercial fiction, the trashier, the better
good gossip
old musicals that I can (and do) sing along with.

What are yours?

I love drama... not on TV but in real life. Not that I like to create it, but I just enjoy talking and gossiping. I was once involved in a love septagon (like a love triangle, but with 7 people), major drama ensued.

36. It's from a Monty Python sketch
"The All-England Summarise Proust Competition." Harry Bagot was the first contestant and was asked his hobbies during the post-event chat.

The "masturbating" part, btw, didn't survive beyond the original broadcast. I can't even remember now if it's on the DVD, though I think it isn't.

Interesting, however, that strangling animals is acceptable while masturbating gets censored.

38. Yeah, the Pythons themselves questioned that
Also considering what the BBC allowed in the series — and this was 1968-72. They had stuff naughtier than saying "masturbating," IMO; naked breasts were fairly common.

Not coincidentally, they constantly made fun of censorship.

24. JD Robb
Isn't that Nora Roberts alter? I think I read that, somewhere.

James Patterson's a fun read, too. And fast. In the summer, I love a good Stephanie Plum novel. Grandma cracks me up. Literally. And Robert Parker sometimes. Not always, but sometimes.

Sometimes I'll buy a book and feel guilty for spending the money on it, so I sneak it into the house and onto the shelf where it'll blend in with everything else and no one will notice it. I can't help myself, though.

Resistance.

Is.

Futile.

The JD Robb novels are set in the future - I'd love to have some of their gadgets, and the repeating characters are really fun to get to know. I like these much better than "standard" Nora.

Books? Resistance? Not even in the same universe for me!!

Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 09:07 PM by Liberalynn
He is an incredible character. Eve and Sommerset's adversarial relationship sends me into fits of hysterical laughter too. I love Peabody, Mira, Mcnab, Mavis, and Feeney too. Just the whole gang for that matter.

The "In Death Series" are definitely my favorite of Nora's but I enjoy her other ones too. Right now I am reading her Irish Gallagher trilogy.

Nora's proflific and talented. I love the sense of humor she includes in all her stories and she is wonderfully descriptive. She's definitely one to read when you need to escape into other space and time.

I could never resist reading either. It has been my one true addiction through out all my life. It was my escape from the tormented days of Catholic school when I was a child and has continued to be my soother as an adult. I confess I am a book junkie. There's nothing I enjoy more than settling down with a good book, a piece of chocolate, and a hot cup of tea.

26. Soap operas for me, too
I'm a Young And The Restless fan.

American Idol, though it's less of one than before.

Big Brother

Celeb crush lists

Jim Carrey comedies

Some music:

A few Britney Spears songs (not a fan by any means, but a few of her songs are made irresistible by her writers and producers - yes, she's definitely a creation)

Stella Soleil (can't sing very well, but I don't mind her voice, and her music is fun)

Phil Collins's Testify

Some of those country music novelty songs (like Joe Diffie's "Third Rock From The Sun")

Brie Larson (quite teen poppy, but good pop is good pop no matter what the genre - I like her CD a lot)

I'm embarassed to even admit it to anyone, and when my family asks me anything about Idol, I try to play down my Idol addiction (my usual excuse: "I caught an episode of it last season, and I just had to watch the next day to see who got kicked off.") It most certainly is trash TV geared towards the lowest common denominator, but I just can't help but watch :) .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanaimo_bar

"It consists of a crumb-based layer, topped by a light custard which is covered in soft chocolate. Many varieties are possible by using different types of crumb, flavours of custard, and types of chocolate."

Our Super Bowl party menu:

Appetizer killers:
Cracked Dungenous Crab and cheese
Stuffed mushrooms
Fried Chicken
chips and veggies

Main course:
Grilled Sea Bass we caught last fall off of West Port
Seven Layer Salad
Scalloped tators

Desert:
The infamous Nanaimo Bar

The champagne remained unopened

It can't be, I do it all the time. Well, maybe not ALL the time but whenever I can get away with it. Housecoat and fuzzy slippers in the winter, boxers and tee shirt and barefoot in the summer.

I can't get away with it as often as I'd like, though. People come to the door and look at me like I've lost my mind (I have but they don't need to point it out), and it embarrasses the kids (which is one of my main goals in life).

In real life I'm very much a pacifist. However, I can spend hours pretending to be a World War II fighter pilot. Of course the realism is a bit off since I don't think actual fighter pilots were able to smoke, drink beer and hit the pause button whenever they felt like it.
