Would proposing on Christmas Day be 'tacky'?
Let's say hypothetically the best thing you can think of to give your GF for Christmas is the commitment to "love, honor and obey" ... would it seem contrived to do it on Christmas Day, or will this make it a day (doubly) worth remembering?

1. Christmas is a fabulous day
Give the person a present, too, of course. The dh and I got engaged, over the phone, on Christmas, and we've been married 24 years.

2. Well it makes it easier to remember what day it was
later but other than that, why not do it now?

15. I agree with you...
Once you've decided you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

I think Xmas is fine... but I also say why wait?
If you got the hardware already, make it a Happy Monday present.

Hell, go out for ice cream and pop it then.
Just do it! That's what I say.

6. You could do it on New Year's Eve
That would be special as well and perhaps not get lost in the hustle and bustle of Christmas.

Congratulations! :toast: <-- Assuming she says yes, of course. ;-)

7. If I had a gentleman friend that I really, really loved
I would be absolutely delighted to receive his proposal as a Christmas present.

After all these answers, do you still need convincing?

8. Classy and sentimental, not tacky
Seriously, it was either late November or early December when I proposed to my wife. And Christmas that year was very special. It emphasized that my wife to be was the best Chrstmas gift ever. I remember floating in the clouds emotionally through that holiday season.

9. A wimpy, chickens**t friend got married on his birthday
just so he'd never forget his anniversary.
Now THAT'S tacky.

16. No, as long as
it's not done to avoid having to go shop for an actual present. That might piss her off a bit.

17. well look at it this way
Do it before you open the presents. That way, if she says no you take back the diamond necklace and give her the spice rack without her knowing!

Really though, I wouldn't do it...why share a special day with another special day?

20. I hate to be a downer...
but what if she says no, or isn't ready yet, or y'all break up later. Do you always want to have that to remember at xmas?

I'd wait til the holiday is over.
