16. Actually, not to continue to correct, the first is Fellowship of the Ring
The whole series is Lord of the Rings.

Sorry to keep correcting you, but I always feel that being accurate is important, so I like when people correct me. Hope you don't mind.

Though in a way, it's becoming humorous. :bounce: :hi: :bounce:

17. 2003 Wasn't a good movie year at all
I'd have to say Pirates of the Caribbean, or Finding Nemo.. I'm sure The return of the king will be a great movie though.

Biggest let- downs ever includes the two matrix movies and Terminator3

18. I'd say the biggest let down movies EVER
are Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones (even though it was far better and much improved over Phantom Menace).

Matrix Revolutions did kind of blow though.

19. Lost in Translation.
Phenomenal movie.

I understand The Human Stain is also excellent, although I haven't seen it yet.

Keep in mind that the entire Oscar race is largely made up of movies released at the very end of the year, so they'll be fresh in the mind of the Oscar people when nominating and voting takes place. Usually a lot of important movies go into limited release the last week of the year, and we peasants don't get a chance to see them until later.

So it's about six weeks too early to be putting up a poll like this.

21. I really enjoyed Love Actually, actually
But then there are a lot of movies I've missed -

I'd still like to see Seabiscuit, Mystic River, The Meg Ryan having sex movie, and I hear the Cooler is great. Course I'll be there opening day for Return of the King.

24. "Other" = ROTK
How can I tell it's best if I haven't seen it yet? Just guessing....

However, the Two Towers extended DVD did come out this year--it's another "best"....

& an honorable mention for Pirates--go, Johnny! (Isn't that DVD out today?)

27. I vote Pirates for best original live action film
The concept not originating in a book. It has great acting, a thoroughly captivating story you can loose yourself in, and Johnny Depp doing someone completely original! ;-) The whole thing did what any good story is supposed to do, LEFT ME WANTING MORE!!

Though I will give special props to Master & Commander. If the movie was anything like the books, it is indeed a fine read.

Finding Nemo is the best animated film this year. Wait, it's the only one right? But it felt complete. I don't feel a desire for a Nemo II.

31. Same here
"Brother Bear" doesn't really grab me. I go see it, it will be because of the Bob & Doug MacKenzie Mooses. LOL! On second thought, I will probably wait for the DVD.

Some things I think are still worth going to the big screen for: Johnny Depp (of course!), tall ships, really good sci-fi effects, a good costume drama (see Dangerous Liasions), certain types of big Cecil B DeMille pagentry extravaganzas. The Last Samurai promises to be one of those.
