Favorite quote from ANY source?
In Bone (a graphic novel) the main character asks his cousin what is going on. The cousin snaps a salute :patriot: and replies "Situation normal, Captain! Spiraling out of control!" I like that.

Rumsfeld uses a version of that. It's the sign of a poor manager.

15. hmmm
I guess I have interpreted it differently then you have. I've never really thought of it in terms of management. Haldeman used it in an interview (when.... many years ago, early 80's sometime, I forget) in the context of people that put him down for his writing of The Forever War. He felt that by his writing he had touched nerves that needed to be touched and started discussion that needed to be had. I was unaware of Rumsfeld using anything like it but can easily imagine him having a totally different take on it.

24. In the case of writing, it makes a lot of sense
In the case of writing military plans for invasions, pissing off the Generals who have actually done it before just for the sake of pissing someone off so you can think you're doing something right - no sense at all.

3. Da Vinci
I can't remember it word for word, and I don't have my Da Vinci works at work with me, but when speaking of men he says something along the lines that unintelligent or uncouth men should be given a bag in which to feed and excrete, as that is all they are - food bags that consume and excrete..something about men being beasts.

There is something in the quote that gets me every time...rather rude and all, but something that I actually identify with. I hate it, but I have always had a SEVERE disdain for ingorant people.

Anyone know the quote I am trying to convey here??

5. Mark Twain, literary critic:
"I haven't any right to criticise books, and I don't do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticise Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can't conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Every time I read 'Pride and Prejudice' I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone."

- Letter to Joseph Twichell, 9/13/1898

10. Gotta quote my avatar, I guess. There's so many good ones...
But this is from 2003's Kingdom of Fear:

"We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world -- a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us... No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we'll kill you.

Well, shit on that dumbness. George W. Bush does not speak for me or my son or my mother or my friends or the people I respect in this world. We didn't vote for these cheap, greedy little killers who speak for America today- and we will not vote for them again in 2002. Or 2004. Or ever.

Who does vote for these dishonest shitheads? Who among us can be happy and proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush?

They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill "gooks". They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are racists and hate mongers among us -- they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them."

25. We are such stuff as dreams are made on
Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.

36. You're entitled to your opinion
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 07:02 PM by Liberalynn
just as I am entitled to mine.

And for your information I was raised Catholic too. It's funny how often the judge not less ye be judged gets forgotten. One of the main reasons I am an ex Catholic.

This is a Church who doesn't even believe women are entitled to serve as Priests, they discriminate against people for what they are born, and then they preach to the rest of us how "evil" we are. That isn't even mentioning some of the scandels they've been involved in either.

Dicourse, don't make me laugh! The only opinions you want to read are your own.

Sorry usually I am more tolerant but not today. x( I'm pissed off by people judging me and telling me how I should think, and how I should live, and how I should be. I usually try to be non controversial and respect others opinions and beliefs but there are times like this when mine aren't respected in return that I get ticked off to the point where I can't keep silent.

I apologize to other Catholics who do see other's views and who do tolerate other's opinions. I know you are there. I promise you this is not a blanket generalization.

I do not hold you responsible for the bias and failures of the "institutionalized" rules only made by men but that all are "expected to live by", of the church, just those members who think we should live according to their personal beliefs and wills alone. The one's who appoint themselves Judge, Jury and God. Its kind of the same reason I'm not Republican anymore.

Any way this is JMHO, and I am not asking anyone to share it. But the question was what was one of "my favorite quotes."

Everyone is offended by something, for instance I am offended by those who find it necessary to be snarky and rude when someone offers a different view of the world.

Sorry to the rest of the board for ranting and going off.
