Poll question: The 'memory foam' mattress topper I bought is 3 inches too short...
It's 73", my bed is 76".

Should I keep or return it?

1. Since I know where you bought it, return it.

3. Well, is it uncomfortable for you, or is it the principle of the thing?
Does it make a difference in how you sleep? If it does, return it. Otherwise, maybe you can arrange it so that the end and the foot of your bed each have 1 1/2 inches short. That might help.

I bought one online and they gave the measurements of the product. I hate returning things, it's such a hassle and the return shipping cost is getting ridiculous.

4. I'd read a review... for the next-size-up version.
It helped their backs a great deal, but they were miffed at it being undersized too.

They opted to do what you'd suggested.

I will check out the competition today. If there's one 76" long then I'll buy it and return the other... if not, I'll try it. I've nothing to lose at this point and that foam topper, even at $60, has a nice feel. Just a little short (I never knew 3" would make sucha difference...).

5. I feel better after sleeping on the 3" topper.
Maybe it's a placebo effect from reading all the reviews, but my back really does feel better during the day. Back exercises and hiking weren't quite enough. I used to put off going to bed as long as possible, but my bed is so comfortable that now I feel like, "Yay, I get to go to bed." :)

One note of caution, I remember reading a review where a man wrote in that if you weigh 200 pounds or more, get the 4" version.

Have you tried the pillows yet? I can't stand to get up in the morning, I keep wanting to lay back down on the pillow. I got the contour pillow, I think it's 3 lb density, can't remember. Feels too firm when you first place your head on it, but then body heat causes it to relax and "contour" around your head. I just love it.

Good luck with your new topper.

6. If you got a good price, keep it
I use one on my bed. My actual bed's an antique couch with arms that fold down, and it's not at all the same size as any standard bed. However, the 3" queen topper folded in half lengthways is just about right! If you move the topper down so that it goes all the way to the foot and the lacking part is at the head end of the bed, you probably won't notice where the edge is, since people don't usually sleep with their head at the very very top of the bed anyhow. Also, your pillows will be on top of that part.

Another tip for using those toppers is to put the entire topper inside of a duvet cover. The topper itself is somewhat sticky and hard to move around when you are making the bed. If you put it inside of the duvet cover, it's easier to move. Also, the duvet cover will keep the topper cleaner, as you can take that off to wash it if, for example, breakfast in bed actually ends up *in* the bed.

7. we have a water bed, nothing really fits a water bed. It was an
experiment in trying to avoid those slidey matress covers. It is excellent. Our solution was to make it come all the way down to the foot of the mattress, and we put a couple of those chairback pillows at the head of the bed, with another pillow in between. Keeps the kitties off the water bed mattress and sleeps quite nicely. The sheets stay tucked in and everything much better than with any other method.
