Satellite Radio Subscribers: a question for you
This question is for those who did not buy a car that's satellite radio-ready. It's only for people who bought, say, a Delphi Roady and subscribed to XM.

How have you installed your antenna?

Like us, did you put the magnet on the trunk, and run the cord between the back seats?

Did you get Best Buy or an auto shop to run it through the car's innards or otherwise install it? How did they do it? What did they charge?

Other?

Thanks!

1. I did what you did.

However, I just bought a head unit that is XM-Ready. That also came with a magnetic antenna. The installer stuck the magnet on the trunk and ran the cable up to the front of the car under all the sill plates and other coverings in the car. He even tied the cable to the electrical conduit in the trunk so it's out of the way. The wire is almost totally hidden. Of all parts of the purchase and installation, that was the best! :D Edit - installation at Fry's was $50.

6. Yes, I think that's what he did.
I know he had the entire back seat out (partially to install rear speakers) as well as the carpet. So either he ran the cable up underneath the console or under the door sills.

2. I did it with a friend thru the trunk and it took all of 5 minutes.
I say do it yourself! Best Buy wanted like $75 or more to install.

My friend ran it thru the trunk and put the wire under the carpet. I can ask him tonight how he did the carpet bit if you'd like? I just remember that it was real easy.

3. If you have a chance, yes, please do ask, and relay the answer.
My Toyota dealership (when I took it in for scheduled maintenance) wanted $180 bucks to do it. I said no after I was done .

Thanks, Scout :)

7. That is absurd. Come to think of it, I think Best Buy wanted
closer to $150. I will see if my neighbor will come over tonight and type instructions for you. He's real cool about that kind of stuff.

Poor guy. Not only does he have to do his "honey-do" list for his wife, but I'm single so he ends up doing my "honey-do" list as well!

I'll keep you posted.

4. I put Sirius in my Jeep.
I ran the wire under my dash, up the side of the door behind the trim and stuck the antenna on the roof.

10. Sirius now has a receiver that looks like a radar detector.
It's all self contained, receiver, antenna. You just mount it on the windshield, plug it into your lighter socket and listen through your car radio. I haven't put the docking station for my sportster in my vehicle yet. No advice can give there.

8. Good question bertha..
I put the antenna on my trunk on the first car I had it in.

With my current car I can't find a place to put the antenna and
also I can't place the receiver.

Does someone out there sell the window suction cup holder I've
seen used?

11. Had Tweeter do the entire install
$50 to install both antenna and XM Roady.

Took about an hour and change, and it was very nicely done.
