2. Any expeience with this sort of thing?
Cuz some surprises are better than others ;) What kind ya making? You do know to frost it AFTER it cools completely, don't you? My dad didn't know about that. Frosting kept disappearing and he kept making/applying more immediately. Mom said that cake weighed 12 pounds by the time he was done with it.

3. White cake with raspberry filling.
The last cake I baked was probably in the 60's. I sure hope it is the thought that counts!

6. Thanks. It smells fantastic! I can't spread the frosting for S***
and it looks nothing like the icing on the box (YES it's a mix!)but it tastes ok.

9. the best way to frost a cake
is to put a huge glob of frosting on the top and spread it out. It's always better to have too much on than too little because you get crumbs all up in the frosting

8. Wow, you like to live dangerously!
Your first cake in 40 years, and you are gonna try something as difficult as that? You really love your wife, and it shows!

15. Well in my experience...
it is 'the thought' that really DOES count the most when it comes to Wives and Birthdays. If the cake turns out well, that's just the...ahhh... Well, it's just the "Icing on the Cake".

7. That's sweet, rustydog!
My husband makes fabulous cakes (along with a lot of other food), and I always appreciate it. I bet your wife will too! (And the cake sounds delish!)
