At what point does a "vehicle" become a "rig"?!? (rant)

I hear this all the time... "Is that yer rig?" "Pull your rig around here!" "So I parked my rig off the side of the road..." :eyes:

Why, why, WHY do people insist on calling their cars "rigs"?!?

Is a '98 Subaru a rig? How about an Explorer? How about a '77 POS with a ton of stuff strapped to it?

Anyone here drive a rig? :D

My car always looks like the Clampetts are going on an extended vacation I've got so much crap strapped to it, but I'd never call it a rig. A rig is a commercial truck or something of similar size.

I've referred to my vehicle as a "rig". Not all the time but sometimes the word rolls out. I've never thought about it. I've referred to several of them that way and they've never been anything out of the ordinary - a '77 Datsun 210 wagon, a Saab, I had a Chevy pickup once and a Nissan Maxima. An '85 VW Golf, an '89 Mazda and now I'm driving a little shitbox '04 Chevy Aveo. I think I've called several, if not all of those a "rig" but I wasn't trying to be manly (I'm not a man) or anything else. It's just my fucking rig - you got a problem with that?

I remember the first time I went on a long road trip, and the motel operator told me to pull my rig around back. I looked out at my 80's Nissan sedan and wondered who he was talking to! :D

11. We have a pickup

We call it "the truck." We also have a travel trailer. We call it "the trailer." However, when they're joined together, and only then, it's our rig.
