We had an earthquake in Northeast Ohio?
I missed it.

Earthquake Hit Northeast Ohio

Officials confirmed that there was an earthquake in northeast Ohio Thursday night, NewsChannel5 reported.

Preliminary reports indicate that it was a 2.8 on the richter scale.

Residents in Mentor, Painesville and Madison reported feeling something at about 9:45.

"It felt like someone hit my house," said one resident.

2. We had a slight one in 1993 or 1994 here in MI
I was riding the city bus home from work so I didn't feel it.

My wife (now ex) was scared big time because she had been through the Mt Pinatubo eruption a few years earlier.

I don't know what it registered though.

I went through the Preita Loma one...at NAS Alameda so I wasn't upset that I had missed it.

4. That's like an hour east of Cleveland, though.
A 2.8 out there probably wouldn't register on the near-west side.

9. I'm surprised a lot of people felt that.
We get 2.8-3.0's around here occasionally, and I never feel them. But, a lot of things factor in, like the depth it took place, and the type of earth in the area.

14. I know, it's rare.
I remember when we got a tiny one when I lived in Michigan and it made the news. We get frequent earth quakes here, but most of them are never strong enough to feel. I think the person who said it felt like somoee hit their house might have been exaggerating. I can't imagine such a small quake shaking the ground that hard. We had a 4 pointer last year, and I definitely felt that, but I wouldn't go that far in the description even for that one.

12. I went to college in Ohio.
An earthquake could level huge areas, and no one would know the difference ...

just kidding. But our school paper did have jokes about getting lost in cornfields, and thus being close to the campus ...
