Bengals extend Palmer's contract through 2014

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Soon after he arrived from Southern California in 2003, quarterback Carson Palmer decided he had found the perfect place to settle down and spend a career.

Now, there's no reason to leave.

The Cincinnati Bengals reworked and extended Palmer's contract on Thursday, giving themselves more salary cap flexibility and a chance to keep their franchise quarterback through 2014.

1. The funny thing about winning, winners want to get paid like winners.
The WHOLE Bengals offensive line will hit free agency in 2007. Next year is their FINAL year under contract.

And, you have to pay Chad Johnson.

Also, defensively, they have Justin Smith, Robert Geathers, Tory James, Keiwan Ratliff, and Kasveharn hitting free agency at the same time.

The bengals never faced this problem before because they never had anyone worth the money.

2. They set it up so they have enough money in the cap to keep them

3. Be careful what you wish for.
The Bengals went from 24M under next year's to 15M under with ONE deal.

Do you think Levi Jones and Eric Steinbech are going to sign for less than 4M per season? What about Justin Smith?

I would BET that all will want double digit signing bonuses with 4M or more in salary. That will suck up cap space quick.

Now, how much does Chad want and who's his agent? ROSENHAUS is the correct answer. Good luck.

4. 2014?
What's that, nine years?

Am I getting old, or stupid, or is it just that the years are beginning to stretch into the realm of the incomprehensible?

I remember sitting in school at age 9, figuring out how old I'd be in 2000: 37. 37!? :wow: Now that 37's nearly 6 years behind me, and I can't remember where it went . . . . it's almost as amazing as how well the Bengals have done this year.

5. A good franchise quarterback usually play for more than a decade
If he fulfills this contract he'll been with the Bengals for more than a decade.
