I have two Plextor's and they are super compatible with every medium. I never can keep it straight but these guys can. http://www.plextor.com/english/index.html
For a cheaper alternative, I have had good luck with Lite On products as well.

4. The difference between + and -

+R DVD's are formatted for computer DVD-ROM drives, and may not work in most DVD Players. -R is compatable with DVD Players.

If you are putting files or something on to DVD for use in a computer, use +R DVD's

If you are putting a video onto a DVD so you can send new year's greetings to Aunt Gertie, use -Rs.
