5. You know, I'm only *now* starting to "get" the appeal of the 911s.
Never liked them. When I was still rolling in dough and was car-shopping, most of my gearhead friends were trying to push me into buying one. But I got one of these, instead:

But mine was BR Green.

Especially the Astons, the Ferrari, and the Lamborghini Miura. (Don't care so much for the Mustang, which seems a little out of place in that group of photos).

Here are a few more:

6. The mustang is there because it's...
...a '68 "S Code" fastback. 427 race motor, same as the GT-40, right out of the factory. Very rare and very, very fun to drive.

11. Eh...
it's still a Mustang (solid rear axle and all that); all things being equal, I'd rather have the GT40 (since the 427 Mustang is about as rare as one of those)...or maybe the ultimate 427-engined car: the AC Shelby Daytona...

13. okay, here you go:

Would it pain you to know I got to drive a nut-and-bolt replica of a Daytona on a TV movie I worked-on? Dry-sump 427 (with modern EFI), multi-point harness, lexan glass, plastic seat, no a/c, all the thrills...

Replica or no, that must've been a bit of a thrill.

17. I've never been more afraid of death.
I mean, I've driven faster, but I've never felt like I'd driven faster. You feel every nick in the pavement, and your POV is so low that your speed seems double what it is.

And it understeers like there's no tomorrow.

And there's a 900lb motor roaring two inches from your right knee.

And venting into your face.

And a little too much pedal, and the rear-end will just pass you on the inside.

18. Yeah.
I sort-of know the feeling. Not really, of course, but I can imagine...I used to have a '69 Stingray that felt MUCH faster at 125 mph than a 2003 Corvette I drove did at 150, thanks to the car itself and the driver's position being lower...and with no power steering and a big V8 sitting over the front wheels, the understeer took a bit of getting used to. THings have come a LONG way in 40 years...kind of gives you a bit more admiration for the exploits of the guys who pushed those cars to the limit, huh?

42. Particularly....
... in an age where the family mini-van is 200hp.

My MGB is pretty tweaked, and lightened to the point that its hp/weight ratio is close to a Lotus Seven. In 1972, it would have been a serious hillclimb contender; now it's neck-in-neck with the Camry!

4. Somewhat, but I know plenty of 'fast women' who'd not only be far more
turned on by these but actually know what their specs meant and maybe even how to fix them. :-)

Always preferred motorycles, anyway, but I think I'd find it hard to turn down a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

If it were me, I'd have both!

For me, these are the two most beautiful cars around.

PS: However what's beautiful right now is this:

It's beautiful because it gets me to and from work. Great, innit?

PPS: The other cars are nice... just not my style.

12. I just sold my Jeep.
It was fun... for a while. Particularly taking top and doors off in the summer.

But having to completely unload it of anything valuable every time I got out of it (even with the top on, as they are notoriously easy to break into) was a bit of a pain, as was the poor visibility, laughable performance and fuel economy, and (surprisingly) off-road performance.

I'd always wanted one, too. Now I've had one, and I don't have to do it again!

As a friend of mine often says, "I understand the 'Jeep Thing', that's why I drive a Toyota".

29. Love the TR6!
Such a timeless design.

My parents had a '69 Spitfire when I was a kid--my dad actually added seatbelts to the little cargo shelf behind the seats so that my nine-year-old brother and my seven-year-old self could ride along. That car was a blast, but seeing how small they are to me now I'm surprised they actually did that! The windshield wipers operated such that the faster the car was going, the faster the wipers went, which made them pretty much useless if you had to slow down because it was raining hard. I'd like to know whose bright idea that was.

My dad had one of these that he bought new in 1970, ordered with a 383 Magnum engine, posi-traction rearend, and Hurst 4-speed pistol-grip shifter. IIRC, it was also a non-vinyl-top car and it was a lighter color, more of a medium blue, than the one pictured below. It was the only car he's ever had that he's truly loved.
