Girls often 'torture' Barbies, researchers say

Many young girls like to mutilate and "torture" Barbie dolls, including popping off their heads and microwaving them, a British study suggests.

Researchers at the University of Bath have been analyzing the effects of product branding and marketing on more than 100 children aged seven to 11.

They found that, of all the products tested, Barbie provoked the most violent emotions.

"The doll provoked rejection, hatred and violence," said Agnes Nairn, who teaches marketing in the university's school of management.

2. Never mind Barbie, it's what the boys do to 'Ken' that's the real
scandal.....evisceration, genital mutilation, daubing with nazi insignias and tattooing him with the words 'HRH Prince Harry'....

26. Ken's genitalia are mutilated at the factory.
His little buddy is a molded bump on his groin and he has no testicles. Think of the lessons girls learn from that...:spray:

5. I never did either!
The only thing I ever did to my Barbies was give them "earrings." I took my mom's straight pins, the kind with a colored ball for a tip, and pushed them into Barbie's ears to make it look like she had earrings on. I never even cut their hair.

12. I did too:
I posted this in the other Barbie thread, but here it is again for the heck of it. Hot off the presses, taken just this very morning--the barbie head I can't seem to get rid of no matter how many times I move:

14. Hahahaha!!
That looks like every Barbie head I ever owned. I could never get her hair to be even, so she'd end up with none!! That brings back memories. Glad to know I am not the only one. I actually did that with all of my dolls, but especially the Barbie's. And that is funny that you still have that head!!

15. Someone keeps saving it when I try to throw it out.
I don't get it. I've tried to get rid of it many many times, but she keeps popping up.

She's haunting me because she hates her haircut and misses her body! Noooo! :scared:

Oh well. I think I'll stick it on the tree this year to see if anybody notices it.

20. Cool!
Way past my Barbie time. All my Barbies were 70s models.

I also had a Suntan Tuesday Taylor. You put her out in the sun, and she would really tan. The one I had also had hair color you could change by swiveling the top of her head. She could be a blonde or a brunette.

30. I had that one too! I didn't like her at all
Barbie was supposed to babysit her and take her with on fun adventures, but she kept abandonning her and jumping on her instead. That Barbie. She's rotten. ;)

Just yesterday he brought me the lower half of her chewed body. He'd dismembered her..hands, arm and torso were in little pieces.

My granddaughter was :grr: Only she is allowed to yank off the legs and head.

11. I never microwaved Barbie...
...mostly because we didn't have microwaves in the 60's.

But yeah, I was a mutilator, of sorts. Her boobs were way too big, and I tried to push them back in - with a hammer.

13. My daughters "outgrew" their Barbies a while ago...
they are 10 and 14 now.
Heard a lot of giggling coming from the basement one day after they had been sent down to clean and choose toys for donation.

The little one came up with a new necklace -- made from the faces of Barbie dolls! No hair or heads, they just cut the faces off and strung them together to make a choker.

Had to admit, it was arresting -- and very cool, if I were still going to dark clubs......

I also had them get into wars with my brother's Force 10 from Naverone set. It was more like Force 10 from Barbie's Dream House.

28. That was the only way I'd play with the damn things
I lived in the sticks growing up so I had one neighbor kid to play with, a girl who loved to play with Barbies and baby dolls. *Yawn* So I'd spice up the games by having my Barbies do things like fall down waterfalls or drown in the brook out back or hang themselves or be attacked by wild animals etc. When we played with baby dolls, I'd convince her to play a game in which we pretended to survive a plane crash on a deserted island where we'd have to eat the babies to survive.

Probably warped that poor girl for life. O8)

I knew this woman in college who lived on a farm when she was young. She played alone and was forced be quite creative.

She would PICK AND SAVE HER OWN SCABS to use as BARBIE STEAKS AND HAMBURGERS! :9
