The Joys of Adopting an Older Rescue
Two years ago, Libby became a part of our family. Libby had a hard life, she came from a pet store and lived for 5 years with an older couple that turned her into a shelter when they had to move to a care facility. Libby was matted, neglected and hours from being put down when she was adopted by a well-meaning family. Libby's new family struggled with trying to housebreak her, but after two years gave up and surrendered her to rescue. It was hard to find a foster home for Libby because of her age and her housebreaking issues, but I agreed since I am home most of the time and my house is mostly tile. Libby wasn't here for more than a day before we discovered she had an infection, a simple xray showed that she had a huge bladder stone that had been growing for a while. The surgery wasn't easy, but she was a trooper and it has made a huge difference. After all she had been through, we couldn't let her go. My son always wanted a dog of his own and Libby was happy to take that role.

Here's a pic of Libby two years ago on her "Gotcha Day". She was definitely the best present under the tree.

And here she is two years later, safely tucked in with her boy.

5. All's well that ends well.
Thanks for taking Libby into your heart and into your home. The "difficult" ones always have a story and almost always turn out to be the best ones ever if one has the patience and love. And you did. Thanks.

7. Adopting older pets is always good!
Kudos to you for giving this sweet girl a new life. It sounds like it was meant to be :)

I wish more people considered adopting older kitties or dogs from shelters or rescues like you! Everyone wants a puppy or kitten, so the older ones are often overlooked, but adopting an older pet is usually the most rewarding :)

9. Thanks al! Libby is definitely a great addition to the family
She is one of the sweetest and most appreciative dogs I've ever known. She just wants to be loved and is grateful for whatever attention you give her. Her smile just lights up the room when she's happy
