A sad pet story
My good friend lives across the street from a lady named Jane who has a bunch of dogs. We think about 10. She works for the Humane Society and takes really good care of her dogs. She has a fenced in yard and all her dogs are spayed and neutered and vaccinated. They don't bark much and never get out of her yard. Every couple months, when she sees me pull up in front of my friend's house, she will come out and show me a new puppy or a dog she is taking care of. It is very obvious she loves these dogs very much.

Recently, another neighbor came to her for help with a stray cat. It was sick and needed medical attention. This lady is unemployed and couldn't afford to take the cat to the vet so Jane volunteered to take the cat to work with her and have the vet look at it. Well the cat was too sick to save and had to be put to sleep. Jane explained this to the lady but she didn't take it well.

A couple nights later, my friend woke up at midnight and heard a commotion outside. The lady with the cat was banging on Jane's door and screaming that she wanted to kill her. She had taken a cab there and the cab driver was honking and yelling at the lady to get back in the car. Jane was of course scared to death and did not come to her door. Pretty soon, the cops pulled up. We think the cab driver called them. They arrested the crazy woman.

Then a couple weeks ago, Jane was notified by the city that she was in trouble for having so many dogs. She quickly found temporary homes for her dogs and when the city showed up to inspect her house, her dogs were all gone. We are all pretty sure that the crazy lady turned her in to the city.

Today Jane told us that she is moving. She bought a house on 20 acres in the country and as soon as she has it ready, she will move there with her dogs.

This is so sad. Jane has lived in this neighborhood for more than 20 years and many of the neighborhood kids have depended on her for help when they find stray dogs. I can still remember about 5 years ago when this little boy knocked on her door crying, holding a puppy his dad said he couldn't keep. She has helped many of her neighbors find medical care at no cost for their animals (we think she probably paid for it herself). My friend and I have said many times that Jane deserves some kind of medal for all she has done for animals in her neighborhood.

Now she has to move. I just think this is so sad.
