Me - it would be freaking Christmas. They start advertising for it back in October and I'm already dreading the holiday season. Nobody really knows what the true Christmas spirit is sometimes.

I'd rather we just give to others all year round and eliminate Christmas.

Which holiday would you get rid of???

12. Fucking VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm one of those old-fashioned, incurable romantics who loves giving and receiving flowers, candlelight, walks on the beach, chocolate, chocolate, and, of course, CHOCOLATE (hey, I'm a woman, whaddaya expect!), but I haven't had a relationship in years and years, and it's been fucking TWELVE YEARS since I've had a boyfriend on that day!

TWELVE YEARS of putting up with the flower and candy deliveries to OTHER WOMEN in workplaces, and being surrounded by romance, couples-oriented this, that, and the other, bombarded with ads for all kinds of "romantic" outings, and being made to feel like shit because I happen to be alone on that day when it almost seems like a crime to some people if you don't even have a date. A few years isn't so bad, but TWELVE YEARS of couple-less VD day is just too fucking much!!!!!!!!!!!!

16. Same thing with me, kinda
I CAN'T STAND VALENTINE'S DAY. I'm actually kinda...sort of...a romantic teenage guy. But, I've been single virtually my whole life single. And now, all of my friends are in relationships, except for the ones that don't want relationships period. I'm the only one that's single and cares, and it just sucks to see everyone in all this couple-everything crap. I hate it!

I agree sister! I'm only on my 3rd year with out a bf on that day but even when I had one. I was like wtf, this is stupid. This is like a holiday for no reason and one year my asshole boyfriend that I did have gave me a good for one use only, gift certificate to see Dr. Kiborkian, ( I guess thats how you spell it). Who does that? "I love you sweetie, kill yourself now." He thought this was hilarious but I was a little worried at that point. LOL, should have told me somthing about him then. LOL VALENTINES DAY IS A JOKE:toast:

20. Xmas, otherwise known as Retailing Madness
the whole thing does nothing for me. I don't want to decorate, I don't want to engage in conspicuous overconsumption, I have virtually nothing to do with my family, and I don't like most of the food. Oh, and the music sucks, unless I get to sing traditional carols in a group that can carry a tune. (I'm not a Christian, but I love the traditional carols; most are beautiful tunes, but who wants to hear them played over and over and over again on co-worker's tinny tape players?)

I do like getting a couple days off of work, but most years, I end up working while everyone else is off partying. Such is the life of a system administrator; if something has to be done off-hours, you end up working over holidays.

It's racist. It isn't universally a paid holiday. It's widely used to torture small schoolchildren.

I'd say it would never be missed.

Columbus Day is an abomination. If the Italians get upset, give them Giuseppe Verdi or something. Just to get rid of honoring that genocidal monster.

27. Christmas
One, I wouldn't have to go to my father's house.
Two, I would have to listen to the advertisments for it which start earlier every year. Because of all the commercialism, Christmas has lost it's meaning. Now it's just an excuse to get presents.

Edited on Sat Nov-22-03 12:38 PM by onebigbadwulf
And that is the correct answer. Valentine's day is the one holiday that should be removed since no one gets it off anyway, and you're made to look like a fool no matter what you do.

The rest of you are wrong.

They must have some interesting Valentine's Day traditions in your part of the world.

Anyway, if it's not an official day off, it's a voluntary holiday, so there's nothing to eliminate.

Why don't we just fast that day, and send the money we would have spent gorging ourselves to Oxfam or some other group. However, still have a few beers around to watch football.
