Is Shatner's character on Boston Legal gay?

I've nevr watched it until tonight, and right away, he's in bed with some guy with a bladder problem.

being very animated in his claim to not be gay every time it's even remotely implied.

My gaydar doesn't go off when I see him, so I think he's just an insecure heterosexual (teeny tiny tinkler, then?)

So why have his character do it?

(Carroll O'Connor, incidentally, got a lot of hate mail and even a few death threats because everybody thought Carroll was a repuke. He was quite the liberal, yet his annual whinings for more money and creative control of 'All in the Family', which started around season 4, made me wonder...)
