Pet treats Made in China. I was told not to buy pet treats made in China
because they don't have the same standards as we do as it relates to processing meat.

For a while I could find pet treats made in the USA but no more.

Most treats are made in China, some from Mexico and I've seen other countries.

I don't know about y'all but my dogs are going to be come vegetarian.

Have you heard the same thing about pet treat products made in China?

1. I wouldn't buy any food products made in China
Lower standards? They have virtually no standards.

3. That is what I'm looking for. Omaha steaks has doggie treats too.
Why would the pet stores sell that crap? I heard that some countries use formaldehyde in some meat processing. I don't want that shit in my precious pups!

5. Oh, you're looking for treats with meat?

I'm no help there. Have you posted in the pet forum? There are posters down there who are very good resources for pet food info, I assume they know the deal about treats as well.

Do you have any shops that make and sell treats in your area? We have several around here but I don't know if that's common or not.

6. Not surprised, but shocked nonetheless.
Also note how prices for pet food hasn't exactly gone down as a result...

7. Merrick makes some good treats.
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 04:48 PM by mutley_r_us
I'm not sure where they are made, but they are all natural. Kinda gross, but good for the doggies. You can also get pig ears that are made in the USA.

edit: Be careful if you decide to make your dog a vegetarian. It can be done, but it is very complicated as dogs require many nutrients that come from meat. Do a lot of research on the subject before trying it.

8. i've heard a bunch of that stuff about a host of products from China...
no labor/environmental laws, no cares in particular but for making money; that's why our capitalists are falling all over themselves to do business there.

10. Try Halo treats. Dogs and cats both will go nuts for their live-a-littles

which are nothing but freeze-dried chicken, beef or salmon. Good stuff :)

Bil-Jac is another one that most pets flip out for http://www.biljac.com/store/products/dogttrtM.asp

Also, Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard makes some good stuff.

All are made in the US (the Wellness stuff is made in Lowell, MA if I'm not mistaken, not too far from me).

12. I've tried Halo and Wellness. Looks like I'm headed back that way.
I can't believe in the last year how all of the stuff in PetSmart has started to come from China.

16. I just buy my pets food and treats at Whole Foods
believe it or not, the food is cheaper than the stuff at PetCo or PetSmart, and better quality.

11. Why not give them a hunk of raw meat?
Get some organic chicken or beef -- that makes a nice treat.

I don't buy any processed pet products for my cats. Just ground whole rabbits and chickens.

13. I don't even buy groceries for myself. The pups and kitties have more
food than I do in the house.

15. But you wanted a treat that's not made in China.
If you want a good treat for your pets, it won't be anything that's processed at all ... whether it's processed in China or the US. And it doesn't have to be vegetarian, as you suggested in your original post. It would be better to give them raw meat. I don't see what this has to do with how many groceries you buy for yourself.
