Goddamn Salvation Army bells
Edited on Sat Nov-26-05 11:51 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Fuck your bells.

That's all I'm gonna say. Fuck your bells. And fuck the assholes who ring them incessantly. And fuck the stores that let the assholes ring the goddamn bells incessantly INSIDE the store.

That's all I'm gonna say. Fuck your bells. And fuck the assholes who ring them incessantly. And fuck the stores that let the assholes ring the goddamn bells incessantly INSIDE and allow them to speak to customers.

Goddamn high-pitched ear-breaking annoying pieces of shit bells.

I meant to post this yesterday, but forgot, so I'm posting it now.

1. I think you are being hyper-sensitive.
You should condition yourself to be unaffected by those who are not engaging in illegal activities.

Freedom.

2. No, it's the pitch of the bells -
otherwise, I really don't mind them doing their thing, though I wish people would find other, less homo-hating causes to give money to.

But the SA really needs to get bells pitched lower.

That high pitched tinkling shit is enough to drive one insane.

4. You have very sensitive ears.
When I was playing in a band, I COULDN'T STAND to listen to music after leaving a gig. I always tuned in to talk radio during the drive home, and turned it off during commercials, as I still do.

I read you, man.

5. I do have sensitive ears. I remember when stores started using sonic
security systems - I could hear the damn things. Awful! Painful!

Every now and again I come across a place that's still using them. Ouch!

3. The moaning and the groaning of the bells.
I

Hear the sledges with the bells-
Silver bells!
What a world of merriment their melody foretells!
How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,
In the icy air of night!
While the stars that oversprinkle
All the heavens, seem to twinkle
With a crystalline delight;
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells
From the bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells-
From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells.

II

Hear the mellow wedding bells,
Golden bells!
What a world of happiness their harmony foretells!
Through the balmy air of night
How they ring out their delight!
From the molten-golden notes,
And an in tune,
What a liquid ditty floats
To the turtle-dove that listens, while she gloats
On the moon!
Oh, from out the sounding cells,
What a gush of euphony voluminously wells!
How it swells!
How it dwells
On the Future! how it tells
Of the rapture that impels
To the swinging and the ringing
Of the bells, bells, bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells,bells,
Bells, bells, bells-
To the rhyming and the chiming of the bells!

III

Hear the loud alarum bells-
Brazen bells!
What a tale of terror, now, their turbulency tells!
In the startled ear of night
How they scream out their affright!
Too much horrified to speak,
They can only shriek, shriek,
Out of tune,
In a clamorous appealing to the mercy of the fire,
In a mad expostulation with the deaf and frantic fire,
Leaping higher, higher, higher,
With a desperate desire,
And a resolute endeavor,
Now–now to sit or never,
By the side of the pale-faced moon.
Oh, the bells, bells, bells!
What a tale their terror tells
Of Despair!
How they clang, and clash, and roar!
What a horror they outpour
On the bosom of the palpitating air!
Yet the ear it fully knows,
By the twanging,
And the clanging,
How the danger ebbs and flows:
Yet the ear distinctly tells,
In the jangling,
And the wrangling,
How the danger sinks and swells,
By the sinking or the swelling in the anger of the bells-
Of the bells-
Of the bells, bells, bells,bells,
Bells, bells, bells-
In the clamor and the clangor of the bells!

IV

Hear the tolling of the bells-
Iron Bells!
What a world of solemn thought their monody compels!
In the silence of the night,
How we shiver with affright
At the melancholy menace of their tone!
For every sound that floats
From the rust within their throats
Is a groan.
And the people–ah, the people-
They that dwell up in the steeple,
All Alone
And who, tolling, tolling, tolling,
In that muffled monotone,
Feel a glory in so rolling
On the human heart a stone-
They are neither man nor woman-
They are neither brute nor human-
They are Ghouls:
And their king it is who tolls;
And he rolls, rolls, rolls,
Rolls
A paean from the bells!
And his merry bosom swells
With the paean of the bells!
And he dances, and he yells;
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the paean of the bells-
Of the bells:
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the throbbing of the bells-
Of the bells, bells, bells-
To the sobbing of the bells;
Keeping time, time, time,
As he knells, knells, knells,
In a happy Runic rhyme,
To the rolling of the bells-
Of the bells, bells, bells:
To the tolling of the bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells-
Bells, bells, bells-
To the moaning and the groaning of the bells.

THE END

11. I'm going to have a little talk with my mom...
I think we may very well have been separated at birth. Let's look at the evidence -

Both felt the calling to mod DU - check
Both love silent and classic films (and can discuss them at length) - check
Both immediately think of Poe whenever "bells" are mentioned - check

7. Bite me. I love those bells.
I love watching well dressed jerks pull up in their suv's, get their well dressed kids out, and walk right by and ignore the bell ringer. Just like they ignore the guys from the Lions Club walking up and down the intersections, and those White Cain guys. Family values at work.

9. I'll get the lube!
The salvation army openly discriminates. Methinks Jesus would not approve.

Time for me to whip out the phony bills again. (they're not money, but pieces of paper the same size but say "When you guys stop discriminating, I'll use actual money instead". Though not quite so pithy... :7 )

13. Be thankful that others haven't run
with this idea. Seriously. It's not like you can't see the big, red kettle, the big sign, the guy standing with it. It's not like you don't expect to see them at this time each year. The bell is sorta overkill, but it must work.

Now, take that theory and apply it to girl scouts. Ringing smaller, higher pitched and numerous bells every time they go out a cookie-ing.

Or the school sports teams and their car washes, candy sales, etc. Aha, but it's sports so they have fucking whistles. Many of them. They're also minors, so even the thought of cramming said whistle up the blowers ass can probably get you arrested.

Hey, those firefighters sometimes go out and pass the boot. Probably be more effective if they had their frikkin sirens on at the same time. And the airhorns!!!

School marching band needs money to go to a competition. Cool, bring the cymbals and the tuba, cuz we're gonna go raise money in front of Target.

See? Could be worse.

14. If I were loaded I'd pay the 500 bucks to NOT be there when I left the
store, but of course, that would be training them to do the wrong thing.

15. I stood in the cold
wind blowing snow

ringing the bells

at all that pass by

the happy ones gave the least

the saddest ones gave the most.

Why is that?

I should say why was that. I ring the bells no more no more

Quoth the raven never more.

This is kinda fun.

180 ding ding ding
