evening....
The food was simply marvelous... The crab cakes were nestled in an apple radish slaw with lightly braised asparagus... The salad was field greens with fresh asparagus and crumbled Guda cheese....
The concert was three Mozart pieces done up in fine manner by the world famous Cleveland Orchestra....
Starting with a Concerto No. 8 in Maj, the concert grew along with Mozart... This particular Concerto was penned when the composer was in his early teens... And it shows... Like a kid guitar phenom these days, Wolfie was enamored with the runs and speed... But the deft hand of pianist and conductor Mitsuko Uchida, kept the piece flowing along with just enough flair to capture the precociousness without devolving into parady... A fine display of Mozart early work..
As soon as the bows were over, the stage4 hands removed all chairs, left the music stands and the string section came out and performed Mozart's Divertimento in B-Flat standing... Without conductor... This showed Mozart's development and depended more on melody to move the piece along than the opening Concerto... The crowd went wild... It was fun to see the gray hairs and Hoie Totie of Cleveland stand and holler...
But the best was saved for last... Mitsuko Uchida strutted back on stage in her lace cape and sky blue pants suit to perform Mozart's Concerto No. 24 In CMin. The performance was, in a word, stunning... The maturity of Mozart from Prodigy to master was shown... Mozart rarely went for the lush and moody sounds of a minor key, but when he did, as with this piece, it is simply a moving piece of music that takes the listener on a roller coaster of emotion....
I have seen the Cleveland Orchestra more that 20 times over the years and this was without a doubt the best of the best...
To top it off, we stopped at a local chocolate shop and ended the evening with hand made chocolate, no singing this time... What a way to end the Thanksgiving Week....
