Alberta Clipper.
So CNN has been blaming the bad weather in the US on a weather system that spawns from Alberta, called an Alberta Clipper. They state that cold air from alberta is zooming into the US and making the weather suck.

I am in Alberta, and it was 71 degrees today, sunny, and generally teeshirt weather...has been for a week.

wtf.

1. Oops ... I guess CNN will need to find another scapegoat.
Oh come on now. I know it isn't fair but ya gotta blame the weather on something.

2. That's wild.
I'd a thought you'd have had 10 foot of snow by now. Shows ya what little I know about Canada.

Yup those damned Alberta Clippers freeze us ice cold down here.

4. the Chinooks make it almost bearable here.
after two week of temps like -31, you get a chinook wind and BOOM 15 hours later it is 60-70 degrees.

and it is sunny here almost all winter, even with the horrible cold.

5. Hey Brundle Fly
I'm in Alberta too...you're probably south of me, as it hasn't been quite that warm here (early-mid 60's). :hi:

I commented about this on another thread...it's been a windows open, jacket off weather for over a week.

Snow is on the way this weekend, though. x(

7. I'm in Kapuskasing (Ontario)...
It's 16F (-9C), 5F (-15C) with the windchill, gray and snowy.

I hate you Brundle... While I sit here in two sweaters, wool socks and fuzzy slippers, I'm really, really hating you. You who brag of your 71 degrees and your sun and your t-shirt.

I hope Canada Post looses your $400 cheque from King Ralph.

(Bitter? No, I'm not bitter, not in the least)

8. that $400 cheque is pure stupidity.
why not pay health care, we in alberta pay like 120 every three months, I think it is free still in Ont?

maybe not, you don't have the cool government you used too.

and don't hate, you were living it up 2 weeks ago with a rather nice indian summer, we're you not?

I am from Montreal, I just live in Calgary for the culture shock.

9. I agree, that money could be better spent
We pay for health care in Ontario as well. The Health Premium gets taken off my husband's pay cheque every two weeks. It's sliding scale and I think we get charged $400 annualy.

Here's an explination from About.com:

Ontario Health Premium

The Ontario Health Premium is to be collected by the income tax system, and is effective July 1, 2004. The premium is based on taxable income, and ranges from no premium for those with taxable incomes under $20,000 to an annual premium of $900 for those with incomes over $200,000 in 2005 and later tax years. Ontario joins Alberta and British Columbia as the only provinces charging premiums to individuals for health insurance. Individual health care premiums were eliminated in Ontario 15 years ago and replaced with an employer health levy by which companies paid the health insurance premiums.

We haven't had a cool government in Ontario since Davis!

And no, the northen part of Ontario has not been living it up with a nice Indian Summer, that's for people who live in south of Sudbury!

What's a nice Montreal boy like you doing living in Calgary?

11. WORK!
Started our company here in 2000, been steady ever since, Montreal is nice, but the amount of client based work is not even close.

14. funny, isn't it! Davis and the old Ontario Tories ...
I was a kid visiting the Ontario Science Centre, and I had a chance to shake his hand -- I didn't -- and now I wish I had.

No health care premiums back then ... far fewer homeless people ... man, how bad does it have to be, to make Bill Davis look like a "cool" leader, in retrospect!

This reminds me -- I've got to keep enough in my account for the Medical Services Plan payment -- they'll be wanting their cheque pretty soon.

16. Pretty pathetic isn't it....
then we had Peterson, then Rae (got a laugh from him when he showed up at work one day and I led him to the conference room in my bare feet - it was hot! It was 10 minutes to quitting time!) then Harris and that used car salesman (can't remember his name) and now McGuinty.

...sigh. I miss the good old days.

Sun shining until 10:30 pm most days in July. Fresh air. Bears in my garage. I'm going to miss that.

13. Alberta Clipper is always
the term used for the cold air that comes down from north central Canada. We get the Hula Loop in Wa., which means unseasonably warm air bearing huge amounts of moisture.
