Dedicate a song to another DU member
(and plant some hideous earworms at the same time!)

This one goes out to Crazy Guggenheim: "You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'," by Leo Sayer.

Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 01:48 PM by no name no slogan
I can't wait to see you! TWO DAYS! Waking up next to you is as close to heaven on earth as I can get!

(and at the risk of getting too sappy, I will take this msg to a PM)

:loveya:

Here's one that makes me think of you:

UNTIL SHE COMES by the Psychedelic Furs

until she comes again
i can hear the things she said
i feel no thoughts to move my head
until she comes again
and with her step, i move my feet
and with her hand, i feel my skin
and with her need, i find i'm saved
and with her dreams, i'm laid

until she comes again
the sun goes out and night comes in
the time goes round and day grows dim
until she comes again
and with her step, i move my feet
and with her hand, i feel my skin
and with her need, i find i'm saved
and with her dreams, i'm laid

until she comes again
with all my savings and my sins
there's no good reason to begin
until she comes again
and with her step, i move my feet
and with her hand, i feel my skin
and with her need, i find i'm saved
and with her dreams, i'm laid

until she comes again
with all her dreams tied in her hand
there is no why to understand
until she comes again
until she comes again
the sun goes out and night comes in
the time goes round
and day grows dim
until she comes again

5. To ALL the kind folks at DU:
KitchenWitch tops my list here, I mention her because of a particular kindness she showed me. There are many others of you out there, you have gone the extra mile to help when help was needed, you have put the needs of others higher than you have put your own needs and lately when your country has fallen on hard times you have been there to do the right thing to help her too......you know who you are.
Along with my appreciation and my gratitude I dedicate this to you:
"When You Wish Upon A Star" http://solosong.net/wish.html (dial-up warning)

24. I was gonna go with
Starfuckers Inc. for Xmas (she'd get it ) or "Wish You Were Here" for AVH but chknltl trumped us all with "When You Wish Upon A Star" for KW (with the rest of us included). All I can say is I totally agree. Can't do better than that.

Khash.

(And I was on a roll...I was gonna dedicate most of Jefferson Airplane to Joani and some Janis Joplin to Peggy (Take a little piece of my heart) and some really bad opera for TJ and some Pansy Division for swimboy... but no. chknltl fucked that up! (She really is kinda special, ain't she?))

32. Thanks for noticing Khash
... I try to keep up with all the "snarkiness" here in the DU Lounge, some of you are Master-Class at this. Now and then though a little heart felt honest sincerity is in order. For me that was one of those moments. KW is off on vacation, she is not likely to see this thread. I singled her out here in order to remind my fellow DUers just how special she is and deserving of this song. I also wanted to show my appreciation to all the other "KitchenWitches" out there too.

So back to regular Lounge antics and imaginative snarkiness. KW would have it no other way.

42. Oh Lord and Lady am I that bad?
Master-class snarkiness? And I thought I was sweet and very huggable. Well, you never know....

Anyway it's a perfect time to be nice to our KitchenWitch - she'll never see it. And when she gets back, we'll be just as snarky as we ever were.

Khash.

that does not change the fact that you are VERY sweet and huggable sir. BTW: your mention of Jefferson Airplane earlier inspired me to visit their official web site. I have "real-player" so I linked into their music. I have been listening to a loop of about 6 of their songs over and over and over thanks to you. If you like, look further down in this thread under "Volunteers" for that link.

54.  I dedicate ~ Take A Bow for Khash !
by Madonna

Take a bow, the night is over
This masquerade is getting older
Lights are low, the curtains are down
There's no one here
(There's no one here, there's no one in the crowd)

Say your lines but do you feel them
Do you mean what you say
When there's no one around (no one around)
Watching you, watching me
One lonely star
(One lonely star you don't know who you are)

I've always been in love with you
I guess you've always known it's true
You took my love for granted
Why oh why
The show is over say good-bye
say good-bye, say good-bye

Make them laugh, it comes so easy
When you get to the part
Where you're breaking my heart
Hide behind your smile
All the world loves a clown
(Just make 'em smile
the whole world loves a clown)
Wish you well, I cannot stay
You deserve an award
For the role that you played
No more masquerade
You're one lonely star
(One lonely star you don't who you are)

All the world is a stage
And everyone has their part
How was I to know
Which way the story goes
How was I to know you'd break
You'd break, you'd break, you'd break
You'd break my heart

57. Great gods, woman!
Should I take that as a compliment or an insult? (I'm going with compliment - you'd never be mean to me, after all)

I'll match your Madonna with KaTe Bush:

Emily...
We’re all alone on the stage tonight.
We’ve been told we’re not afraid of you.
We know all our lines so well, uh-huh.
We’ve said them so many times:
Time and time again,
Line and line again.
Ooh, yeah, you’re amazing!
We think you’re incredible.
You say we’re fantastic,
But still we don’t head the bill.
Wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! unbelievable!
Wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! unbelievable!
When the actor reaches his death,
You know it’s not for real. he just holds his breath.
But he always dives too soon, too fast to save himself.
He’ll never make the screen.
He’ll never make the ’sweeney’,
Be that movie queen.
He’s too busy hitting the vaseline.
Ooh, yeah, you’re amazing!
We think you are really cool.
We’d give you a part, my love,
But you’d have to play the fool.
Wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! unbelievable!
Wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! wow! unbelievable!
We’re all alone on the stage tonight.
We’re all alone,
On the stage,
Tonight.

Khash.

"Hollaback Girl"

Uh huh, this is my shit
All the girls stomp your feet like this

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Because I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl

Ooooh ooh, this my shit, this my shit

I heard that you were talking shit
And you didn't think that I would hear it
People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up
So I'm ready to attack, gonna lead the pack
Gonna get a touchdown, gonna take you out
That's right, put your pom-poms downs, getting everybody fired up

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Because I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl

Ooooh ooh, this my shit, this my shit

So that's right dude, meet me at the bleachers
No principals,no student-teachers
Both of us want to be the winner, but there can only be one
So I'm gonna fight, gonna give it my all
Gonna make you fall, gonna sock it to you
That's right I'm the last one standing, another one bites the dust

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Because I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl

Ooooh ooh, this my shit, this my shit

Let me hear you say this shit is bananas
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
(This shit is bananas)
(B-A-N-A-N-A-S)

Again
This shit is bananas
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
(This shit is bananas)
(B-A-N-A-N-A-S)

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
Because I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl

Ooooh ooh, this my shit, this my shit

For Buffy - Tom Waits "Time" I think she'd like it.

107. Thank you so much.
I don't want 'songs' dedicated to me, as I don't tend to like songs (most especially German lieder :puke: ) - and an entire Opera would seem excessive just for little me.

I hope that the poetry will be read aloud though - poetry read silently is the definition of pointlessness.

95. I can think of two for you:
Saint Augustine in Hell: http://stingetc.com/lyrics/

and my all-time favorite by Sting: Fragile

If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the color of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay

Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence
and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are

26. When I See an Elephant Fly for: newyawker99 ~
I saw a peanut stand, heard a rubber band,
I saw a needle that winked its eye.
But I think I will have seen everything
When I see an elephant fly.

I saw a front porch swing, heard a diamond ring,
I saw a polka-dot railroad tie.
But I think I will have seen everything
when I see an elephant fly.

I seen a clothes horse, he r'ar up and buck
And they tell me that a man made a vegetable truck
I didn't see that, I only heard
But just to be sociable I'll take your word

I heard a fireside chat, I saw a baseball bat
And I just laughed till I thought I'd die
But I'd be done see'n about everything
when I see an elephant fly.

33. For WCGreen ...
~ The Rose ~

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you its only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

34. To Madrone and Swamp Rat
May You Never Lay Your Head Down

May you never lay your head down
Without a hand to hold
May you never make your bed out in the cold

You’re just like a great and strong brother of mine
And you know that I love you true
You never talk dirty behind my back
And I know that there’s those that do

Please won’t you please won’t you bear it in mind
Love is a lesson to learn in our time
Please won’t you please won’t you bear it in mind for me

May you never lay your head down
Without a hand to hold
May you never make your bed out in the cold

You’re just like a good and close sister to me
And you know that I love you true
You hold no blade to stab me in my back
And I know that there’s those that do

Please won’t you please won’t you bear it in mind
Love is a lesson to learn in our time
Please won’t you please won’t you bear it in mind for me

May you never lay your head down
Without a hand to hold
May you never make your bed out in the cold

Well you’re just like a great and strong brother of mine
And you know that I love you like I should
You never talk about me behind my back
And I know that there’s time you could

Please won’t you please, please bear it in mind
Life is a lesson to learn in our time
Won’t you please won’t you bear it in mind for me

May you never lose your temper
If you get hit in a bar room fight
May you never lose your woman over night

May you never lay your head down
Without a hand to hold
May you never make your bed out in the cold

Please won’t you please, please won’t you bear it in mind
Life is a lesson to learn in our time
Won’t you please won’t you bear it in mind for me

48. Gotta Travel On by Bob Dylan is my dedication for you ~ datasuspect
Done laid around, done stayed around
This old town too long
Summer's almost gone, winter's coming on
Done laid around, done stayed around
This old town too long
And it seems like I've got to travel on
And it seems like I've got to travel on.

Papa writes to Johnny, "Johnny, can't you come home ?
Johnny, can't you come home ? Johnny, can't you come home ?"
Papa writes to Johnny, "Johnny, can't you come home ?"
Johnny's been out on the road too long
Done laid around, done stayed around
This old town too long
And it seems like I've got to travel on
And it seems like I've got to travel on.

That silly wind will soon begin and I'll be on my way
Going home to stay, going home to stay
That silly wind will soon begin and I'll be on my way
And I feel like I just want to travel on
Done laid around, done stayed around
This old town too long
And it seems like I've got to travel on
And it seems like I've got to travel on.

There's a lonesome freight at 6.08 coming through the town
I'll be homward bound, I'll be homeward bound
There's a lonesome freight at 6.08 coming through the town
And I feel like I just want to travel on
Done laid around, done stayed around
This old town too long
And it seems like I've got to travel on
And it seems like I've got to travel on.

51. For Wetzelbill...
Mr. Spaceman, by the Byrds:

Woke up this morning with light in my eyes
And then realized it was still dark outside
It was a light coming down from the sky
I don't know who or why

Must be those strangers that come every night
Those saucer shaped lights put people uptight
Leave blue green footprints that glow in the dark
I hope they get home all right

Hey, mr. spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, mr. spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Woke up this morning, i was feeling quite wierd
Had flies in my beard, my toothpaste was smeared
Over my window, they'd written my name
Said, so long, we'll see you again

Hey, mr. spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, mr. spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Hey, mr. spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, mr. spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

59. This one's for California Peggy:
Beach Boys, California Girls

Well east coast girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And the southern girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when I’m down there

The mid-west farmer’s daughters really make you feel alright
And the northern girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california girls

The west coast has the sunshine
And the girls all get so tanned
I dig a french bikini on hawaii island
Dolls by a palm tree in the sand

I been all around this great big world
And I seen all kinds of girls
Yeah, but I couldn’t wait to get back in the states
Back to the cutest girls in the world

I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california girls

I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)

139. Thank you, Bill. Here's my dedication for you ~ The Boxer ...
I am just a poor boy and my story’s seldom told
I’ve squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest, hmmmm

When I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station, runnin’ scared
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters, where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know

Li la li...

Asking only workman’s wages, I come lookin’ for a job, but I get no offers
Just a comeon from the whores on 7th avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there

Now the years are rolling by me, they are rockin’ even me
I am older than I once was, and younger than I’ll be, that’s not unusual
No it isn’t strange, after changes upon changes, we are more or less the same
After changes we are more or less the same

Li la li...

And I’m laying out my winter clothes, wishing I was gone, goin’ home
Where the new york city winters aren’t bleedin’ me, leadin’ me to go home

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him
’til he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains
Yes he still remains

Li la

142. This one's from Grateful Dead for you ~ darkstar ...
Dark star crashes, pouring it’s light into ashes.
Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis.
Searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter.
Glass hand dissolving to ice petal flowers revolving.
Lady in velvet recedes in the nights of good-bye.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

134. 2 for JJ = rock the casbah
Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin' to the top
The sheik he drove his Cadillac
He went a-cruisin' down the ville
The muezzin was a' standing
On the radiator grille

The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail

Now over at the temple
Oh! They really pack 'em in
The in crowd say it's cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
The temple band took five
The crowd caught a whiff
Of that crazy Casbah jive

The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way

As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned to
The cockpit radio blare

As soon as the shareef was
Outta their hair
The jet pilots wailed

He thinks it's not kosher
Fundamentally he can't take it
You know he really hates it

155. Here is one of my favorite Steely Dan songs dedicated to you ...
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 01:46 AM by Joan_Alpern
Dirty Work

Times are hard
You’re afraid to pay the fee
So you find yourself somebody
Who can do the job for free
When you need a bit of lovin’
Cause your man is out of town
That’s the time you get me runnin’
And you know I’ll be around

I’m a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah
I don’t wanna do your dirty work
No more
I’m a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah

Light the candle
Put the lock upon the door
You have sent the maid home early
Like a thousand times before
Like the castle in it’s corner
In a medieval game
I foresee terrible trouble
And I stay here just the same

And I would have truly loved that gift if it was more than an image on the internet, if you catch my drift. ;-)

Happy birthday to you.

Travelling down the road and back again
Your heart is true
Your a pal and a confident

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see
The biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend."

Carole King, I think, and from memory. :hi:

and the many kindnesses he has shown me and so many of us.

You Have Lived

You have lived such a gentle life upon this earth
that I am stunned by your sight.
If I could give but a token of the love you have,
then I might not be this lonely tonight.

Let them have their smug and their cool, confined by fashion and peer.
I love you for your courage in this frightened atmosphere.
I love you for your courage in this frightened atmosphere.

Oh, there are so few brave ones like you. Need I explain?
Never wondering what to do, what to venture, what to gain.

And, you have loved, in a total way, from flesh to soul.
You speak, without coy without pose.
Your eyes can see that the emperor has lost his clothes.
And what's more, you'll tell the whole world what he stole.

Let them have their fad and their fix, confined by fashion and peer.
I love you for your courage in this frightened atmosphere.
I love you for your courage in this frightened atmosphere.

89. For KitchenWitch: Blatz and Sauerkraut
Blatz and Sauerkraut

written by J.Krueger & B.Soucy-sung by HORST

Didn't sleep so good, tings were spinning in my bed
When I woke up dis morning it was oh my achin' head"
I said "Hilda you don't look well" as she closed da bathroom door
Yah...we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before

Went to our church picnic where we ate some dogs wit kraut
And den we drank so much damn beer we nearly both passed out
I told the da taxi "Take us home, right to our front door"
Yah...we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before

Yah we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before
Hilda's in da toilet, she won't open up da door
I sent da kid to get some Pepto-Bismal at da store
Yah we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before

Hilda said she'd match me every beer from da keg
So every time I poured one, she ate a pickled egg
She smells so bad I shouldn't have to kiss her anymore
Yah...we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before

Yah we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before
Hilda's in da toilet, she won't open up da door
I sent da kid to get some Pepto-Bismal at da store
Yah we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before

Someone's knocking at da door, da kids say it's grandma
Den Hilda yelled "Horst come help me wit my enema"
I'm sweaty and I got da chills, don't like da shape I'm in
And when I'm feeling better I will never drink again

Yah we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before
Hilda's in da toilet, but she's opened up da door
You know I'd like to use it but she's layin' on da floor
Yah we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before
Yah we had Blatz and Sauerkraut da night before

HEY ! !

Now men we don't like shopping much at least not in dem malls
'Cause all you ladies wanna do is wander down dem halls
We just don't understand, we'd rather wait out in de car
Or even better yet just drop us off we'll find a bar
You want us to take interest girls but we don't give a darn
"Cause we do all our shopping out at Fleet Farm

Fleet Farm...Fleet Farm
When I'm feeling down it's like a shot right in the arm
You women got your fancy malls but men we know real charm
We're headed for the aisles at Fleet Farm

HEY !!
HEY !!
HEY !!
Ain't nothin' you can buy inside a mall that's worth a darn
That's why I'm headed for the aisles at Fleet Farm

Fleet Farm...Fleet Farm
When I'm feeling down it's like a shot right in the arm
You women got your fancy malls but men we know real charm
We're headed for the aisles at Fleet Farm

Not many women, not many children
Mostly men, real men
The smell of tires, and shiney screws
Extension cords, in orange and blue
Fishing tackle, aluminum bats
Guns and knives, cool hunting caps
Lotsa plumbing, lotsa lumber
A million tools, it's all a wonder

Aisle forty-two, automotives...WE LOVE IT !!
Aisle forty-tree, farm...WE LOVE IT !!
Aisle turdy-one, light bulbs...WE LOVE IT !!
Aisle forty-seven, work boots...WE LOVE IT !!
Aisle seventeen, bows and arrows...WE LOVE IT !!

Aisle turdy-nine, cement...WE LOVE IT !!

Crazy for feeling so lonely
I’m crazy
Crazy for feeling so blue

I knew
You’d love me as long as you wanted
And then someday
You’d leave me for somebody new

Worry
Why do I let myself worry
Wond’rin’
What in the world did I do

Crazy
For thinking that my love could hold you
I’m crazy for tryin’
Crazy for cryin’
And I’m crazy
For lovin’ you

I wanna try your shoes on

And say what I see

But you’re the fonz
You’re the fonz
But you’re the fonz
You’re the fonz

And everyone would clap
Well I can play the tuba

I know it’s over for me
I know it’s over for me
I know it’s over

I drove my car to the top floor
And stood at the edge
When I woke up in heaven
Looked down and no one cared
But when you pulled your own trigger
They all gathered around to watch

Cause you’re the fonz
You’re the fonz
Cause you’re the fonz

Oh, the streets of Rome are filled with rubble,
Ancient footprints are everywhere.
You can almost think that you're seein' double
On a cold, dark night on the Spanish Stairs.
Got to hurry on back to my hotel room,
Where I've got me a date with Botticelli's niece.
She promised that she'd be right there with me
When I paint my masterpiece.

Oh, the hours I've spent inside the Coliseum,
Dodging lions and wastin' time.
Oh, those mighty kings of the jungle, I could hardly stand to see 'em,
Yes, it sure has been a long, hard climb.
Train wheels runnin' through the back of my memory,
When I ran on the hilltop following a pack of wild geese.
Someday, everything is gonna be smooth like a rhapsody
When I paint my masterpiece.

Sailin' 'round the world in a dirty gondola.
Oh, to be back in the land of Coca-Cola!

I left Rome and landed in Brussels,
On a plane ride so bumpy that I almost cried.
Clergymen in uniform and young girls pullin' muscles,
Everyone was there to greet me when I stepped inside.
Newspapermen eating candy
Had to be held down by big police.
Someday, everything is gonna be diff'rent
When I paint my masterpiece.
