What is the funkiest bassline that you can think of?
Mine is from Jimmy Smith's "Root Down"

Also the basis/sample bassline for the song by the same name done by the Beastie Boys in 94 (and to be honest, the only reason I ever heard it).

check out 'My Imagination' by Gladys Knight. Of course Chuck Rainey's bass line on the Sanford and Son theme is pretty damn funky too.

And may the one true Steph (SJBech) bless and keep you (but not too close) on this special day.

Happy birthday, man.

30. "Stomp" by the Brothers Johnson, which I'm listening to now.
Talk about beating that ass. Louis Johnson was the first bass instructional tape I bought and he includes two of the licks in the video. I just flat out love that song.

Others -

"I was Made to Love Her" - Stevie Wonder (James Jamerson)
"I Am Love" - Jackson 5 (one of the most underrated Jackson 5 songs ever)
"I just Want to Celebrate" - Rare Earth
"It's Just Begun" - Jimmy Castor Bunch

77. Believe It Or Not
I was listening to some music this afternoon and playing my bass guitar (or it was playing me--hard to tell when it's all body knowledge). Anyway, I had been through the usual, and I asked the wife what she wanted to listen to. She suggested an old favorite by The Little River Band, a tune called "Happy Anniversary." You may know it. In any event, I can follow along on bass to most LRB without any problem, but I had never tried "Happy Anniversary," and I didn't remember what the bass line even sounded like, so I turned it on to give it a try. I didn't get past the third note. Wow! Talk about a funky bass line. If you haven't listened to this song lately (or ever), try it again. Amazing work.

Thought I'd share. :)
