Group wants to see humans extinct

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Make no mistake about it, the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement isn't anti-child, it's more like anti-human.

The VHE is dedicated to phasing out the human race in the interest of the health of the Earth, founder Les Knight told Wednesday's San Francisco Chronicle.

With 16,000 people born per hour and a current global population of 6.5 billion, there are already more than enough people on the planet, Knight said.

A 1994 study concluded a single person born in the 1990s would be responsible during a lifetime for 22 million pounds of liquid waste and 2.2 million pounds each of solid waste and atmospheric waste, the newspaper said. He or she will have a lifetime consumption of 4,000 barrels of oil, 1.5 million pounds of minerals and 62,000 pounds of animal products that will necessitate the slaughter of 2,000 animals.

1. Sounds like the entire Bush Admin and all his supporters must be members.
Their policies toward the environment and the people indicate that they obviously have no interest in perpetuating the human race on this planet.

2. Whackos
I consider myself an environmentalist.

It is not the size of the population that is the problem, but rather the distribution of the natural resources.

Earth could easily support a doubling of the population, and a sharp rise in average standard of living; allowing private collection of economic Rent cannot.

6. Damned right
We've been able to support much higher populations for decades, in much greater material comfort.

It is the market that leaves food to rot to keep prices up.

12. Well, size CAN be a problem, but
It sure as hell doesn't have to be ZERO. What a bunch of crackpots.

3. Let them lead by example

From the article: "Knight, who had a vasectomy at age 25".

As long as they all lead by example I bet the movement will become extinct long before the human race.

4. I don't know, the Shakers lasted a few generations.
Mostly by adopting Orphans and gaining a few converts. That whole absolute celebacy thing didn't really go over well. But at least these guys can do it like bunnies and avoid popping out puppies.

Ummm...mixed sex metaphor there....sorry...

7. Chevy Chase, in Lemmings
As a Weatherman type, exhorting the crowd

"You're all pigs and you should die. You're not worth the pig that died to make your belt, you pig. Dig a big hole and beat yourself to death and turn into compost." Or something to that effect.

Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 01:38 PM by Shell Beau
that we can't overpopulate the earth, but no one will tell me I can't have children. There are other measures we all need to take to help the earth. This is some more of that extremist BS!
