Do you have any pet hates?
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 10:58 PM by ...of J.Temperance
Yes?

I'll take this GOLDEN opportunity, to in fact go first. My pet hates are as follows, well some of my pet hates are as follows:

Milk - YUK! I like chocolate milk though, but not MILK milk.

Carrots - YUK! I've disliked carrots since I was a child.

People who talk loudly on cell phones in public places.

The Houston Astros - I've been a Card's fan since I was a child.

Fundies as an ENTIRE unit.

Bad coffee - YUK! If people can't do coffee correctly, then they should just get the heck away from thinking they can do coffee correctly. I'm NOT ashamed to say that I LIKE Starbucks...and by and large Starbucks is a good organization, because the fellow who started it is a Democrat and donates money to the DNC.

Men who do body-building - YUK! I'm sorry but a lot of girls just don't think that those over-size muscles with veins popping out are even remotely attractive...also they could be trying to compensate for what they don't have "down below"...if you don't believe me, there's photographic evidence out there to support my point...go to Google...Google is our friend. A decently well-built gentleman who looks normal, is far more attractive than any Muscle Beach Party type.

Hummers - YUK!

Hummer LIMOS - DOUBLE YUK! Oh dear, have you seen those WHITE Hummer stretch limos? They're...HIDEOUS...and there's absolutely no excuse for such monstrosities.

The country of Belgium - There's nothing in Belgium...except the small bronze statue called "Manneken Pis", which is somewhat amusing after a few bottles of Stella Artois of course...and Stella Artois is the only other thing that's interesting about Belgium. For educational purposes of the historical kind ie. History Lesson # 681, here's a picture of the aforementioned "Manneken Pis"...and yes, that IS a statue of a little bronze boy pissing:

And here's Stella Artois website, the GREATEST lager on the PLANET:

http://www.stella-artois.com/index.jsp

Mornings - They're NOT a necessity...why would ANYONE want to get out of bed in the Morning, when they can just as well get out of bed at Midday or 2pm?

'Um, I do have other pet hates...but I'm quitting whilst I'm ahead :)

Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 11:00 PM by ...of J.Temperance
I'll go and change that part...it's just whenever I think about Utah or Idaho I immediately think people are Fundies, and of course NOT ALL of the people are.

It's NOT my fault that I'm NATURALLY stupid :(

I've just now changed it to: Fundies as an ENTIRE unit...so I hope that's better for you?

:)

Nah, I'd better not make any further comment...even though I know that a lot of people would like me to make further comments on the subject of:

Girls liking it outdoors.

There was a straw poll last year at a Hen Party...and the highest percentage said "Yes, outdoors"

So ya see, I'VE got the poll numbers on my side on this :)

7. Why sure! Who doesn't ?
Here are some of mine:

Motorists who do not yield when entering the highway, particularly when I'm driving the RV. If I can't change lanes, you have to STOP if necessary, folks. Pretending I'm not there doesn't cut it. RVs don't stop on a dime.

People who overdo it with perfumes/scents.

Co-workers who spend waaay too much time on personal phone calls. Exactly how many times a day, every day, must you check in with your spouse?

Door-to-door solicitors who just "happen" to be in my neighborhood. I don't care, I still want you to just go away.

25. I'm well aware of the Manneken Pis.
My dog is a tiny Brussels Griffon named Meneken. Apparently his original owner had a sense of humor, though she couldn't spell. It's also true that this breed is notoriously difficult to house train.:D

They dress this statue in costumes to commemorate different holidays. I always thought this was pretty sick until I learned the story behind the statue. Many years ago there was a terrible fire that consumed a very poor section of the city. The statue remembers a small boy who lived there and did the only thing he could think of to stop the fire...

Your little dog sounds like a sweetie :) And OBVIOUSLY I congratulate you on keeping it's fabulous name and not giving him a new name!

You're absolutely correct about THE Manneken Pis, so here's two pictures of him all dressed up:

In a Real Madrid kit, which is bizarre because Real Madrid are indeed a Spanish football team and NOT a Belgian football team:

And I'm not entirely sure what this particular costume is commemorating, but it's cute anyhow:

If you or anyone else want to read more about the history of Manneken Pis, here's a good page:

28. Thank you. I was actually the second person to adopt him after
his original owner died and took the time to find out as much as I could about him, including his real name. The guy who first adopted him called him Bill, poor little guy. I think he was relieved to finally hear his name, again. He certainly knew it, since he was nine-years-old when he found me.:-(

And here's my little pis...:loveya:

As for the statue, I still think it's bizarre, but understand the story now. Thanks for the pix and the info...:hi:

33. Oh he's SO cute
What a little doll :) He hates getting his faced washed and he eats pizza and linguine!

Hey didn't that guy know that there's a law banning people from calling cute little dogs Bill...or Bob...or Fred...or Virgil?

Taking his proper name off him, and him not hearing it again until he was nine, it's terrible :(

Yeah, Manneken Pis is pretty bizarre...it's a good job that it's NOT in DC isn't it...or else Pat Robertson would be screaming his head off DEMANDING that Manneken Pis' "strategic area" be covered up IMMEDIATELY.

36. I thought you'd like to see him. He really is very unusual and terribly
cute. He expects to be taken everywhere (and is so good he must be used to it), and attracts attention wherever he goes for both reasons. "What kind of dog is that?!" I always say that this is pretty amazing for a little dog that nobody wanted.;(

And the guy who adopted him only had him for a few months. If I recall, his original owner died in August and I adopted him in the middle of December, 2002. He didn't like the guy and didn't get along with his other dog and he was planning to just have him put down, though I can't imagine a vet who would do this. He would have been so easy to place.;(

I had lost my beloved cocker spaniel (also rescue, as are all my guys) at the beginning of November and I thought my other cocker missed him. I now know that she was showing symptoms of Cushing's Syndrome. But the little guy took to her the very first night I brought him home and she loved the adulation. The very sad truth is that he spent his first nine years with his biological sister, but she was placed separately. It must have been a dark few months for him, having lost both his owner and his sister, especially since she was the leader.;(

I called regarding a newspaper ad for an eight-year-old male cocker spaniel. I was told that the cocker had been placed, but the person in rescue, who has become my good friend, said she knew of another little dog that was in real trouble. This was on a Wednesday and I met the guy, who wanted someone else to take Meneken, the following Saturday. In those few days, I spent time on the phone with the person in rescue, my vet, his vet and anybody else who could tell me more about him.

He wouldn't come out of his carrier, so he had to take the whole thing apart. Meanwhile, my cocker stuck her entire head in there, LOL! I reached down and picked him up with one hand and he just leaned against me. He'd found another person to love him, and another sister. He's currently snoring, behind me, in my chair.:D

And you're entirely right about the Manneken Pis! There was an Italian restaurant here in my Freeper town and the Italian family who ran it placed a miniature statue of David at the entrance. You wouldn't believe the controversy that this caused!:eyes:

35. I really like most pets
especially furry ones. Dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters (especially teddy bear hamsters), probably even ferrets (though I have personally never had a ferret).

However, once we had a badger in the back pasture and it was really ornery. I don't thin they would make very good pets and I think I would really hate to have a wolverine as a pet, so I guess those two are my pet hates.

37. I never did answer the original question. People who abandon their pets.
I don't care whether it's because they've "moved" (I have! And I take them!) or because of "allergies" (I'm allergic to cats, but I've had three!) or whatever other sorry excuse they come up with! Once you adopt an animal, it's yours for life. That's the way I look at it. They get attached to you and abandoning them is just unconscionable, IMO. That's the reason I take senior animals. They need special care because they've been abandoned and just don't understand.;(
