what happened to "subcultures?"
does bohemianism still exist or is it ensconced neatly in a prefab condo rehab somewhere near a former skid row that is now a "theater district?"

can you even get flophouse rooms anymore?

1. You can, but you wouldn't like it.
No cable. Lots of silverfish. Not much in the way of resale.

3. maybe, but silverfish tend not to support a diverse liquor store.
I mean, if you want a 40 of Colt 45, there you go, but if you want a Bonny Doon "Cigar Voilant" 1997, forget it.

I'm not sure about the cigars, though.

5. Co-opted by multi-national BRANDS!
They OWN you.

To quote Naomi Klein:

"We were so focused on what was written on the wall we never noticed that the wall had been sold"

Or some other shit.

9. cultural homogenization
the importation of the worst aspects of suburban life (big box retail, sprawl, "safety," "convenience") in the city.

your street smells like a bath shop instead of onions, garlic, and piss kinda thing.

is there anywhere left that isn't sanitized?

10. Where the non-Upper-Middle class trustafarians & their parents don't live?
Those would be the non-disneyfied places.
