Watch Big McLargehuge win a martial arts tournament!
Not as good as I'd hoped, but there is always added pressure in a crowded gym.

At any rate, I am happier with my performance now than I was all day long.

Vid is 22 megs, so dial up users are out of luck. Sorry 56kers!

2. Wait. You didn't have to fight the evil Dr. Fu Manchu....
I'm not sure this counts as a win.

I would have been much more impressed if you fought off 20 guys (one at a time, of course) while balancing on a chair near a steep cliff.

But given the circumstances of the glare of the thousands of evil, hypnotized minions in the gymnasium about to attack you if you showed the slightest bit of fear, I'll grant this my please as a win!

Congrats!

11. I do that all the time.....
Except there's no audience, no sword, I'm not involved in a competition and I'm mumbling a lot.

Great stuff. When I win the lottery, I will pay you to be my bodyguard.

12. Second place is first placed LOSER
I don't know anything about that but it appeared to this untrained eye that you were surrounded and all those people were so scared of you they just sat there and tried not to make a move.

Very good. Congrats.

13. I had to keep waving the sword around to keep them at bay
you did notice the two people with bo staffs, they knew if they sprung into action it might be possible to land the stick on me once, and I'd get and ouchie, but they'd be pureed by my samurai might in response.

17. that is so interesting
how you keep putting the sword back in the scabbard.... or at least the motion. Neat. Some of the turns are similar to the tai chi sword. Maybe I can find a way to show this to my teacher, he is very interested in the differences between sword forms.

Congratulations! :)

18. Iaido is literally the art of drawing the sword
the idea is that the sword comes out, does its work, then goes home. Unlike, say, Kenjutsu, which is actually using a sword on a big battlefield where you just cleave away until the enemy routs or you get killed.

Iaido is a very stylized type of martial art, akin to being a quick draw artist in the old west as opposed to being a rifleman in the infantry.

Does that make sense?

21. yes!
tai chi (sword) is very flowing and arty looking, but it is also quite martial, but without any of the hard muscle motions common to other forms. My H has some film on his dig. cam of him doing the sword form, maybe I could send you that if we can transfer it somehow.

I think one of the TC sword masters said, "A sword in one's hand gives one unlimited happiness."

22. my favorite sword related quote from "Sanjuro"
Mutsuta's wife: You're too sharp. That's your trouble. You're like a drawn sword. Sharp, naked without a sheath. You cut well. But good swords are kept in their sheaths.

34. I am also a student of Hapkido
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 09:07 PM by BigMcLargehuge
you can check out our school web page here

www.americanhapkidoacademy.com

Hapkido and Aikido spring from the same source, Daiteryoakijuijitsu. Choi Yong Sool, the founder of Hapkido, and Morehei Ueshiba were classmates under the tutilage of Takada Sakaku in Japan.

dial up.

However anytime you want to fight, just bring it on! :)

Congratulations, btw. My little brother has done some NHB fighting, and I'm a former serious wrestler competed internationally and all, so I know that this stuff takes a tremendous amount of work and dedication. Way to go.
