Why, oh why, oh why, do people
Send me e-mails with giant files attached when they KNOW I'm on dial-up? If I'm expecting something, it's no biggie. One friend of ours sends me EVERY joke someone forwards to her. She's an older lady, and doesn't seem to understand that I've seen the jokes her sisters are sending her...a couple of years ago. Giant files, with pictures! WHY??????

Sorry...just spent twenty minutes with my computer dragging while it tried to get an e-mail that turned out to be from her.

1. You poor, poor helpless person.
And there is not one thing you can do about it. Is there?

2. Well, I'd get high speed internet if I could
But that's not an option. I have tried to nicely tell the friend not to send me every e-mail she gets, but she just can't seem to help herself. I'm not going to get rude with her, and I'm not blocking her e-mails, because sometimes she does actually communicate with me that way. So, I'm living with it. I just needed to bitch a little.

5. Of course.
It is so easy to be cruel to you. After all, all you will do is bitch a little bit.

6. I have the need to bitch about that same thing
nearly every day. We have antiquated phone lines out here in the country & no sign of any improvement. The alternative is very pricey. I usually try to be patient - unless the forward/multi-photo is Republican-based - which is a total waste of my computer time! You do have my utmost sympathy!

10. I feel your pain, so to speak
Out here on the road, I use the Verizon Wireless National Network. Not much faster than dialup-usually 60 or so kbps. LTspouse likes to send pics of the grandkids, but forgets to compress 4MB jpegs:banghead:

11. I'm currently connected at 26.4 Kbps
I get really happy if I hit 30 or higher, which is rare.

17. I'm currently at 24 -
an all time high for us was a speedy 29 - felt like we were flying! I often wonder how much time I waste playing solitaire while waiting for a page to load. To say nothing of all the extra cigs I smoke.

Dang, that sucks. If I'd won the Powerball(which I didn't), I'd have had a satellite net connection installed for ya. We DUers look after one another when we can:)

12. you could
download Mozilla Thunderbird. It has an option you can set so it only downloads the header to emails. Then you can sort through which actual emails you want to download vs which you want to just delete from the ISP server, and if you want download low-priority emails later (if you don't delete them)

:hi:

I am using this feature in Thunderbird, but I'm f&cked if I know how I got it turned on. I've spent the last 30 minutes looking, so I could post to you about how to turn it on.

haven't a clue.

14. When I was on dial-up I had a friend that sent me e-mail
that had been forwarded 40 times, all people still listed, with pictures that took 10 minutes to download. Then it would be a cartoon cuddly bear with flowers that said have a nice day. I wanted to snailmail her a venomous snake.

21. Here's another question:
Why do people forward attachments and you have to open 6 or 7 attachments before you see the actual joke? When I forward, I always clean it up before sending.
