This week is really starting to suck - dog has to be put to sleep .
This sucks so bad . Tiger , a brown chow only 5 years old - is sick and my parents never took care of him as far as visits to the vet are concerned . I am so pissed off right now . They got him the day that I flew to Germany in March of 2001 . He was my alert dog - always barked whenever a stranger approached the house and always barked to let me know that the pizza man was here for my pizza . Ahhh memories of him eating a ham bone from last summer of 2004 is going through my mind ... sniff . I am going to come home from work tomorrow and he is not going to be there . I am so sad - my little brother and I are close to hiding him instead having him taken to the pound . I swear this week is going to suck ... ::sniff::

3. He has been walking with a limp but that is no good reason for me .
He just needs exercise . I have'nt been able to take him outside for a couple of days since its been raining and I have been tired from work - but still , that's no reason to take him to the pound and put him under .

8. That's all?
He's not suffering? OMG, I'm so sorry! It doesn't sound like a good reason to me, either. Maybe there's more going on. Maybe?

17. I don't live at home anymore but during the day I go over and check on him
moved out about a month ago ( finally ) but I still went over there everyday to check up on him and play with him no matter how tired I was from my job . Dogs have bad days when they look like they are sick just like everybody else . He has a limp - still not a good excuse for me either - damn sometimes I think I am the only one with a human heart for nature in my family . I think a lot of it has to do with the costs and being selfish - he never got the proper pet care that every pet deserved . I feel guilty for allowing it to happen but I took care of him the best I did while I was still living at home . Maybe he misses something I don't know . Also my stepdad is very bullish when it comes to things like this - any dumb idea is a good one to him and my mom lets him do it . Sucks - bah I feel for my little brother in all of this . I could easily say that I will buy him another dog but dogs are not replaceable . I had a cat when I was 17 and I came home from school and he was gone - to this day I still don't want a new cat , I want the one that I had back . The apartment complex where I live does not allow pets - if it did - he would be here ASAP .

2. OH. I'm SO sorry for you. I had to do it last year. Me, a big burly guy
that spent years pulling float - er, nevermind -bawling my eyes out at the vets office.

I wish I knew what to say that would help :/

5. Dogs are truly a man's best friend .
And he was surely this girl's best friend - comforted me every night when I was sick for a week dealing with a recent break up . I was in the living room watching tv and he just came up and put his head in my lap and laid with me .

14. I agree. One thing that helped a bit was that I called the National Park
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 08:20 PM by qnr
Service, and unofficially, they let me bury him in a wildlife viewing area. Under a shady tree next to a bubbling creek. The vet told us our other boy will likely be gone by Christmas, and I might make the drive from ME to NV just so they can be together.

I hope with all my heart that your friend doesn't have to go. Is it something that a pain reliever like Rimadyl might be able to help?

Edit: Typo

13. Lazy parents of mine .
My little brother just called and told me about it over an hour ago ... I am praying that they are talking crap again ... pets can't be replaced all the time . Actually my grandmother has his brother as a pet - I can bet you that he is going to feel the affect of this as well . Sometimes they meet up in each other's dog houses - being that my grandmother lives up the street from me . I find it cool how they have instincts with each other and can find each other :)

10. I am so very sad for you...
and your whole family. Cuddle with him as much as possible tonight. Sear the memory into your memory. Give him comfort and keep reminding him of how much he is loved.

12. Isn't there some hope you could find another home for him?
I hate to hear of a relatively healthy animal being destroyed when it could be avoided.

16. If that doesn't work, can your grandma help?
Maybe she could take him for a few days to give you more time to find a home. This is just too sad and it doesn't seem right at all.

19. I'm so sorry...But, if there really isn't anything wrong with the dog
could you perhaps call a Chow Rescue group in your area? If he is a gentle and friendly dog they'll be glad to find a new home for him. Best of luck.

20. Disabled dogs can have a great life.
Even if the leg had to be amputated, he could still have a full life.

If I were you, I'd "steal" the dog and take it to a no-kill shelter. At least give the poor guy a chance.

22. UPDATE : I just phoned my mom and stepdad ...
and I begged them for my little brother's and Tiger's sake not to do this . They are taking him to the vet tomorrow to find out why he is limping . Had to use a couple of curse words to get my point across but Tiger is family . Saving him was worth it .

25. That's great news!
Can you go with them? It sure would be good if you could hear first-hand what the vet says.
