6. Long (boring) story, actually
Years ago I needed a nick for IRC. Being completely apathetic at that moment, I actually just hit random keys and got "aeija". This was later shortened to ae', because there was another ae online, and nobody could pronounce aeija. Eventually I changed it to aePrime, because it reminded me of calculus.

4. Given that a DVD holds 4.7 GB of information
what compression ratio is needed to hold 24 seconds of video?

Was hoping you could tell me, since I can't get it. :P

7. NTSC? PAL?
NTSC is generally 720 x 480. It's definitely at 30 frames per second. PAL would be 25 FPS, and film 24.

So 24 seconds of video at 30 fps would be 720 frames. So each frame can, in theory, take up 6.68 megs.

So, in short, I don't have a clue.

24. Oh, good question
I'm a computer scientist, but I'll leave all of my favorite technical books out of it.

I may have to go with The Count of Monte Cristo. Sure it's 19th century pulp fiction, but I find it very entertaining. One of my goals in life it to learn French well enough to be able to read it in its native language.

Another would be The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and siblings.

But who knows when I'll be out? It's kind of a soft deadline.

It'd probably be sooner if there wasn't DU to distract me!

28. Technically, yes
but I probably wouldn't. :)

I've seen some scary stuff involving underage drinkers, and I wouldn't want to be held liable!

If we go to the right place in Canada, where you're legal, I'll buy you beer!

35. That's a fine question
And the answer isn't pretty. It's a myth put forth by the undergarment industry simply to make money.

Right now, somewhere, there's a Mr. or Ms. Hanes laughing and rolling in a pile of money while going commando.
