English Beat

What about you--what would you like to see played more?

2. Any/all videos from 1981 through 1983.
MTV started sucking royally on January 1, 1984, and the suckitude continues lo these 20+ years later.

The first couple of years were great, though.

3. I hear you--my dh says the same thing...
I couldn't get MTV in the early years, some weird cable thing back then. So I can't say from personal experience.

4. We got cable a few months before the spawning of the MTV empire.
Like many people back then, the first time I saw MTV, I sat and watched for several hours waiting for the "show" to end.

There ain't no end in sight yet!

5. I know--it's a sad thing that the last time I enjoyed MTV
was when they suspended their regular programming after 9/11--they showed nothing but videos all day and all night. The only exception was the occasional Red Cross promo. But otherwise, it was glorious! This went on for days... They showed old and new videos, mostly songs that were low key, or uplifting, etc. I didn't care, it was videos non-stop for at least 3 days!!! :woohoo:

I was sorry to see them return to their usual shows.

11. I enjoyed their benefit concert that they showed last weekend.
That is about the only thing I've really sat down to watch in the past year on regular Mtv.

14. I missed that..
Glad you enjoyed it! It's rare that I hear of anyone enjoying anything on MTV these days.

I usually watch their movie and music awards. This year, I didn't even bother--there wasn't one performance I wanted to see...

15. We ran a thread on here about it.
Four hours long and well worth it. I wish it had been commercial free and more performances from the artists but still overall very good.

18. Oh that one! Yes, I watched that when it replayed!
The first time they showed it was a pisser--couldn't believe they talked all over the performances.

They almost saved face, replaying it. The fact they didn't do it to begin with says a lot about the kind of station it has become. :eyes:

6. Metal videos that don't suck.
No more Armored Saint, no more Vixen, no more Lita Ford, no more Krokus. Play Maiden, play Sabbath, play GOOD Dio.

12. I've seen Iron Maiden and some Sabbath.
They seem to show this ONE song by Lita Ford--I hate the song and the video...

But I feel your pain. It sucks when you want to hear/see metal videos and all they want to play is pseudo 80's metal (Poison, Crue). I don't understand why they even consider that metal...

9. I just saw a Zappa on the other night...I was surprised...
I don't even recall the name of the song, I was so taken aback to see him in rotation.

:wow:

I've never seen any Rundgren/Utopia...

16. Probably "You Are What You Is"...
...since I'm fairly certain it's the only video he ever made. :)

Funny that they don't show more Rundgren/Utopia, since Todd's "Time Heals" was the second video shown on MTV. I seem to recall a live clip of "Bang The Drum All Day" featuring Flo & Eddie being in pretty high rotation as well.

17. Yes! That was it!
Now that you mention it, there is at least one Rundgren in rotation. Is Time Heals a live video?

19. No...
"Time Heals" is full of wacky special effects and Todd with a bad haircut (actually, he spent most of the 80s with a bad haircut).

20. LMAO--
Poor Todd, I guess he liked his hair like that. Bebe didn't bother to tell him that wasn't his best look, I suppose. LOL!

There's a live performance of their's in rotation--not sure of the song though.

10. It seems they only have one ELO in rotation
which irritates me, I love ELO!

I've only seen one, live performance that they play frequently. None of the Xanadu soundtrack seems to get played, none of their other hits. I'm baffled as to why...

13. Dire Straits from the Making Movies album
there are at least two videos that I've seen, Skateaway and Tunnel of Love. I've heard there was a video for Romeo and Juliet too, but I've never seen it.
