some good news for once
well good news for me anyway. I've been having a pretty shitty week (although nothing compared to the hurricane survivors) but my laptop computer was on the blink and I really didn't have the money to fix it, so I was quite worried about what I was going to do for school. Well my mom calls me yesterday (who has been sending me clothes and stuff non-stop for the past couple weeks) and I tell her of my computer troubles, it turns out that she just made a deal that will give her a substantial commission check and along with giving me a couple thousand for general living expenses, she is going to buy me a new laptop.

So my question to you, my fellow DUers, what kind of computer should I buy? (no offense Mac people, but I don't do them...no offense)

2. Why no Mac?
Have you tried one for more than 10 minutes?

Go Mac and you won't go back.

3. Best laptop you can get - a TOSHIBA.
good value for the dollar, and very reliable.

I researched this very thing to DEATH when I bought mine a year ago.

10. my old computer is an IBM
I bought it refurbished almost 4 years ago and it has served me well. It just seems like IBMs are a little on the pricey side. I've heard good things about Toshibas as well

12. That's true about IBMs. Toshiba is the way to go. Also, find out
if there is a place in the area that will build one for you.

11. The backlight is probably ready to break
I could get it fixed but it's just time to get a new one. I was planning to get a new computer when I graduated in May but this week's developments sort of expedited the process

7. I'd stay away from Dell's Laptops. I see a disproportionate number
of Dells.
