Poll question: White or whole wheat bread?
Did you know?

*Simply switching from white to whole wheat bread can lower heart disease risk by 20 percent, according to research from the University of Washington reported in the April 2, 2003 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association.

Buyer beware, though. Even if it's brown, it needs to say "whole wheat" or "whole grain" on the ingredients label or it really doesn't count.

If you don't eat whole wheat bread, why not?
If you do, what's your favorite brand?

I also try to stick with brown rice and whole wheat pasta when I'm cooking at home, but it's harder to do eating out. That's OK because I try not to be too uptight about what I eat.

2. One thing that always concerned me about that brand
is that it seems to stay fresh forever. I question how many preservatives they put in there to make it stay that way.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

4. thank you.. and I guess that is part of why I like it
It does stay fresh forever. It feels soft and fresh, probably even after it starts to mold.

5. I think its interesting
to see people eating brown colored white bread. I don't think most of them realize there's a difference between whole wheat and that other brown stuff.

6. That's what the marketers are hoping
Most of the time in restaurants, they just give you the brown-colored white bread.

Unless it's homemade or from a very good bakery, and not wrapped in a plastic bag. But if you want a good, retro PB&J or bologna and sandwich spread sandwich, hey, that's what you need, WonderBread, Rainbow Bakery bread, Bambi bread...whatever.
