10. So, the correct way to say it would be oz-sie

6. zzzz... The poll fooled me though... should be Awe-sees and Awe-zees...
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 09:42 AM by Misunderestimator
I thought you were going for the vowel again...

Awe-zees... or Ozzies... whatever... it's a "z" sound.

7. It's the first part I'm focused on
Awes vs Oz

I suppose there are four main possible permutations, but I'm fairly sure the locals call themselves Ozzies

The Australian Marines we trained with all did, anyway, before they threw up in their helmets :D

9. Ok, so you mean someone who would pronounce Awe differently than Oz.
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 09:48 AM by Misunderestimator
To me, the vowel is the same. An AH with a slightly rounded sound.

But, yeah Ozzies.... sounds right. :)

8. My Aussie friends
describe themselves as "Awzzies" and their homeland as "Awz" to the best of my phonetic interpretation.

"Antipodean git."

(Note: Just a friendly razzing. No actual insult intended to all our Aussie friends.)
